I caught this on the AA- in short, it caused a bit of a brou-ha-ha over there; the 2ndA advocates cried foul (understandably so) and the gun-grabber apologists were unsure of what the big deal was.  Just goes to show you people only believe what they want to.

Good for this gun shop owner, he isn't just about making a buck but about staying true to the cause.  They are after our 2nd A rights people...don't think for a minute that that is not what it is all about.

Awesome!

And Kelly said "took a matter of minutes" while glazing over the fact it would be days before he would actually be cleared to pick it up. He says it so casually as if he just "bought it too" within minutes. But he didn't take possession of it. So ... he can have a 45, but an AR-15 is too dangerous? Well he didn't get the gun, so did he just prove a point contrary to what he wanted to?

Let's throw that in medieval context, for fun:

Quote
I'm sorry, Sir Shopsalot, but we can't sell you a long sword any more. Anything over a 30 inch blade length is deemed an assault sword. Here, have a look at this arming sword with a 26 inch blade. That's plenty for home defense and hunting. What's that? Oh, the roving landscknechts and their 50 inch blades? Don't worry, just wave your sword in the air 6 times and they'll run away. Oh 6? Yes that's plenty, nobody needs to swing their sword 10 or more times. Who? The town guards? Of course they have long swords, why shouldn't they? You? You don't need a big sword anyway.

As far as I'm concerned, Kelly still has the 2nd amendment right to *OWN* an AR-15; however along with rights goes responsibilities and consequences. He has a right to own, and if he's going to make a public stink about it, the shop owner has just as much right to not sell it to him either. Doesn't mean he can't go buy from another store, and maybe he'll think about why the store owner didn't sell to him. It's like 7-11 - no shirt, no shoes, no service - except it's, pass your NICS check, don't be a jerk, and you can buy a gun. He wasn't denied any constitutional rights, he just caught his karma for his actions.

lol, nicely done.

Yeah, that's something that happens quite a lot, and the anti-gunners overlook-- Gun stores deny sales all the time, when they have doubts about how the person is going to use it. They probably do as good of a job as the instant background checks.

I can appreciate that on the part of the gun store owner.  What Kelly was doing was essentially a straw purchase and the gun store owner called him on it.  Nicely done.

Personally, I think Kelly bought that specifically for home defense- he probably wasn't looking to be recognized, so he came up with a BS story that sounded plausible.  However, his point would've been made w/any gun purchase, not that of an assault rifle.

I take issue with his cover-up, is all.

You know there's something wrong with a law if even the police don't follow along.

Bear good faith that this officer will only enforce the law that is based upon the oath he took to uphold. Discretion is the best tool I have been given as I have it at my disposal to utilize for the job I do. The only true law that protects us is one that allows us to do the same from those who think they act in everyone's best interest (when it is clear that corruption plagues their good judgment & integrity if it ever existed).

God gave us his laws so we would know what is right, moral, human, and decent for all men to follow. He gave us 'free-will' so we would know that we have the ability to choose our own path. Each of us has within what defines us to be men of faith, good in our hearts, sound in our minds, and moral in our souls; or the opposite end of what makes men sinister and corrupt. Our words spoken alone are just words unless our deeds coincide to reflect those principles.

"Justice (as it is) comes from laws based on faith, honor, prudence and wisdom. Guiding principles I will live by and serve. And if my death ensues from this service, it is for good cause and the better of those whom I protect. If there is any who impose contrary values to these, I swear I shall not serve you; and will with my dying breath speak out against you and defend those of which I pledge my life to protect. For if my life has no meaning then my death serves no purpose. Uphold justice, protect the innocent, serve with benevolence."

That was a joke in reference to a good quote, Sir William. I follow the law as it is expected of me but laws are made to ensure police do have exemptions written within them to be able to better serve public interest too. As it should be because police require such protection from those who would do them harm (or others). Professionally, I serve public interest when working. Personally I protect myself, my family, and my brethren before all (unless there is good reason to hold exemption to this rule).

I have to say, this is the most entertaining version of this story I have yet to read!

I used to respect Mark Kelly until he pulled that.

A smart man like him should know that the gun that was used to shoot his wife was not the thing responsible - it was a looney who pulled the trigger
