Hah, I love some of the comments on the youtube video.. I have to agree with the one that said they were expecting one of the lines to end with "...and has really great hair" or something like that. I guess the thought is that you're not really boasting if you're telling the truth...

Well, I watched the 1967 Camelot this week. Split it up over two nights since it's long, and I don't think I can take more than 2 hours of a musical at a time.. haha It's probably been 15-20 years since I last saw it.

I find it interesting that this interpretation shows Arthur rather willfully staying in denial of what was going on around him until everything fell apart. And they end the story before going off to war and getting killed. I always find it interesting to see how each movie adaptation will take a different interpretation of the legends.

As an aside, the more recent "King Arthur" that came out a few years ago isn't an Arthurian story at all, IMHO. It's as if they just inserted all of the character names into a late-Roman-Empire setting. Arthur isn't even a king in the film, despite the title.

The musical was (rather loosely) based on The Once and Future King by T. H. White.  The silliness of Pellinore, Arthur's nickname "Wart" and Arthur being turned into animals by Merlin reference the book.

When I was little my dad would play the Broadway recording with Julie Andrews as Guinevere on his hi-fi stereo.

Heh, yeah... I think when I was a kid, we had a 45 (or whatever the smaller record size was) that had a sampling of various musicals, and it contained some of the Camelot music as well.

Actually, in watching the film, most of it was only vaguely familiar, but I remembered the music pretty well.

I think the absolute worst "Arthurian" movie was "First Knight" beyond the fact that I am not much of a Richard Gere fan to begin with.  I had to read "Le Mort de Arthur" three times to get the movie cleansed from my skull.

I've only seen First Knight once, and don't really remember it. I'm planning to watch it soon to jog the memory. But I still think the worst is actually King Arthur, which had nothing to do with Arthurian stories, except in the names of the characters.
