Welcome to the forum!

I'm glad to see more people getting into jousting. I really hope it'll grow as a sport. One thing that gives me hope is the fact that WMA/HEMA in general is growing very rapidly. Jousting is a little harder for people to get into, because it needs horses, but it makes me very happy to see it growing as well!

i wish, working with a local armourer who normally does SCA, but I ticked his fancy and ask him if he would to do a suit for me...  but that's the look im going for.  Not TOO much fluting, but going with the armet and having the grand guard attached so i can do tourneys with the solid hemlock lances...

That's Italian style, and one of my favorites. :) Which armorer are you working with?

Emorokian Arms. They're in Charlotte.  I've done some apprentice work with him here and there and i trust his work...

SCA armour can be ugly and takes away from an actual piece, bar grills and what not.

He's been looking at doing a whole suit for a while, and being only a 35 min drive to him, i will get measured and adjusted at the armoury.  and plus if i dont like it, i can say fix...

doing all stainless, 14-16g. might be a bit over kill to some, but... im going to be getting hit with a lance on horseback...  :o ;D

Hail, and well met, David.  One day I hope to join the ranks of you jousters.

Hey, I've heard of them (Emorokian)...I look forward to hearing more about them.

I don't think 14-16 gauge stainless is overkill for full contact jousting armor, since most of the time will be in the saddle, and good armor is important. What I'd suggest is 18 gauge for the rerebrace, vambrace, greaves, and backplate; 14 gauge for the gorget and breastplate; 12 gauge for the helmet (substantial dishing thins the metal quite a bit). The pauldrons, knee cops, elbow cops, gauntlets, could all be 16 gauge. If you'll have a grandguard / the typical italian style jousting reinforcement pieces, 16 gauge should be more than plenty.

SCA armor runs a big range - there's stuff that's cringeworthy but functional, there's stuff that's fantastic looking ... and everything in between. The bar grills are really common, but I've seen some SCA helmets with swap / garniture pieces with a bargrill for fighting and a proper visored plate for looking awesome during non-combat or tourney use. Having somebody nearby who made the armor and can make adjustments will be a *huge* benefit.
