Maryland Special swords?

I can't wait to see the new Surcoat, Sir Brian!

Maryland Special swords are the swords Sir Edward and I was able to bring into MDRF. Essentially they have their blades removed and the hilt is permanently secured to a hard scabbard with epoxy. I've just got into the habit of calling mine my 'Maryland Special'. ;)

On a couple of positive notes I had my initial fitting for the new pattern yesterday and she assured me that she'll have it ready by Friday as long as I can get the fabric trim I ordered online to her by Thursday and lo and behold I received the fabric trim in the mail yesterday as well and can drop it off to her on Monday!   ;D

1.) With all the new changes going on at MDRF this year I am concerned those of us with the 'Maryland Special' swords may not be allowed to have them.  :(

Yeah, we'll just have to wait and see. They've never been consistent in how they enforce that sort of thing. And technically, even "costume" swords are against the rules there. But they've been lenient when we've shown them it doesn't come out of the scabbard. Hopefully they'll continue with that, but we'll see.

2.) Although VARF was very gracious to our order I am not as confident of MDRF being so, thus I do not intend to bring any of the ‘Honorary Page’ certificates for the kids. I do not think MDRF will be as accommodating.  :-\

That is true. Especially since they passed it through the grapevine to "tone down" the thing with the coins. MDRF gets a little weird about playtrons sometimes. For instance, one of the guys we know (Rob, who is one of the yeoman at VARF now) used to wear this great leather fantasy "Dragon Lord" armor. MDRF got really twitchy about it and asked him to stop dressing up in it. Just because he looked intimidating. Even though he's one of the nicest guys you'd ever meet.

3.) The weather forecast thus far looks promising for both days so I will be wearing full armor on Saturday at least and perhaps armor ‘light’ on Sunday.

Excellent. I'll keep an eye on the weather too. Full kit one day, and light kit on the other isn't a bad idea.

Sheesh. MDRF needs to calm down.

Is Rob the guy in pic #6 here - http://www.james-anderson-iii.com/events/mrf/2010 ?

Nope, afraid not. I'll have to keep my eyes open for pics of him. He hasn't worn it in about 2 years now I don't think.

EDIT:  I don't know if the album is set public, but he has images posted on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.7613337342.22600.548542342

Further EDIT: I remember some people complaining about people with helmets or masks. Like, somehow hiding your face automatically turns you into a criminal.

Yeah I remember Rob's armor...it is excellent and a damn shame they had the audacity to tell him not to wear the garb. He looked sinister but is the nicest guy. Yeah how the management at MDRF reacts to some playtrons is cause for serious concern and yet how they'll consistently ignore completely obnoxious and rowdy drunken retards tends to make my blood boil!  :o

Well it looks like Hurricane Irene just might be there for opening day as well. :(

So far 70% chance of rain Saturday and 60% on Sunday. Question is to armor up still or don't go at all? On a side note I wore armor light last Sunday @ PARF and got pretty drenched but did not sustain any rust since I applied a liberal coat of gun oil before leaving for the faire and reapplied another coat when I got home a couple hours after getting soaked. This could be one of those times to stock up on more gun oil!  ;)

Hmm...a healthy spray of Flitz might help me.  I have to do some tailoring to my hauberk this week...looking forward to the first day, rain or shine!  If its raining heavily, I'll stay as long as I'm able just to see what its like to be waterlogged in armor.  Heh.

I'll see what the consensus is before I go about crafting a MDRF special sword.  I would've done it sooner but I kind of liked the SLO I got to use for it so I haven't done it yet.

Well, I don't mind getting rained on a little in my aluminum/stainless mail. The elbows, knees, and helm are all that really can rust on me, and they're all optional pieces I can leave off, and lighten up a little. Heck, I can go really light and leave the chausses off too.

don't you love how we're getting beautiful weather right now, and it's going to rain on the weekend? Just perfect.  ::)

You took your armour off when it started lightning, didn't you?
