I just checked the national weather picture for the weekend.  All you guys on the East coast - please play safe this weekend!

(The weather is absolutely perfect in MN thanks, in part, to you guys keeping all the crap over there.)

Is the faire still happening this weekend, or is it in the evacuation zone?  Stay safe good sirs, stay safe!

No evacuation here, so the faire will go on. We're going to get wind and rain, but not evacuation levels.

If you guys want to rethink the armor thing, that's cool. I'm still planning on armoring light, since it's all aluminum. It actually takes less abuse than my other garb, which is more suede/leather based.

Yeah, I won't be able to go.  :(
My dad also has taken sick, so it seems the fates have frowned upon this weekend, my brethren.

Any others we can plan?  :D

I can't make next saturday due to wedding commitments, but I'd possibly (probably) be in for Sunday. I'm going to attempt to head out tomorrow; if the weather is bad in the morning, I may hold off, as I'll be going alone. I'm taking garb in case I don't feel up to armoring up by myself (dressing myself, I mean), as my wife will not be able to help me. I'm not sure if I'll make opening gate, but I should be there shortly thereafter.

I can't make it. Besides my armor is all regular steel, in the rain it will rust which I don't want...

Well I won't be armoring up. Even though I have a good layer of oil on my steel it wouldn't repel the amount of rain we'll be getting. Labor day weekend looks perfect so I'll wear armor 2 out of the three days. Probably Saturday and Monday. Today will be our wet garb day...Pirates!  ;)

We'll just have to coordinate another weekend to meet up my brethren!  :)

Gentlemen, I am going to sit this one out and use the time to work on my kit some more. I was not happy with it during the test fit last night, and I'm going to use the opportunity to improve on it. How is next sun/mon looking for everyone? Should I start a new thread for that?

I can try to rename the thread "Re-opening Weekend MDRF".  ;)

Sunday could end up being fairly nice if the rain moves out like they are predicting!
But yeah next weekend for sure! :)

Yeah, we could just rename the thread for next week. :)

I ran into Sir William today, but I think we're the only ones who made it. Kat and I made it in time to see the gate show this morning, and stayed til "close"... that is, at 3pm they closed early. But we didn't get too ridiculously wet. The wind hadn't really kicked up yet, and so the umbrella did a good job.

But get this-- Apparently this time I forgot to pre-wash my linens before making my ankh surcoat. The blue is starting to bleed into the white quite a bit. Grrrr... I wonder what will happen if I throw the whole thing in the washing machine and just wash it several times. Hard to say.

Anyway, as for next week. On the labor day weekend, we usually only do faire sat/sun, and skip monday. But nothing's decided yet.

Bummer about the surcoat, Sir Edward!  I hope it isn't ruined.

Sir Edward,   http://www.shoutitout.com/en-US/Products/Pages/shout-color-catcher.aspx.
I've never tried it, but it came to my mind after I made my torse out of red and white then realized I had not pre-washed it. Figured it couldn't hurt.

Ah, excellent. I think I need to try that. I'm tempted to wash it 3 or 4 times in a row with that stuff and see if I can get rid of the loose dye.

Now that the surcoat is drying off, it doesn't look quite as bad as it did at first, but it did bleed for sure. Most of the bleeding is in the lower part, where the wind was blowing rain onto my legs.

You should also try adding a little white distilled vinegar to the wash to help keep the colors
bright as was suggested to me by the seamstress who made two of my surcoats.  ;)
