Well it looks like Hurricane Irene just might be there for opening day as well. :(

So far 70% chance of rain Saturday and 60% on Sunday. Question is to armor up still or don't go at all? On a side note I wore armor light last Sunday @ PARF and got pretty drenched but did not sustain any rust since I applied a liberal coat of gun oil before leaving for the faire and reapplied another coat when I got home a couple hours after getting soaked. This could be one of those times to stock up on more gun oil!  ;)

I heard about the rain too. I'll be going either way, though the amount of time I stay will depend on the weather. Mother Nature can rain down on me with all her might - pfft, stainless steel! - although lightning will be a deciding factor as to when to shed the armor....

The good news is that MDRF is about 2/3 under tree-cover. When it gets really rainy, most of the danes will bug out, and then there's room in the taverns for the garbed playtrons.

But we'll just have to see what the hurricane does.

I'm thinking that if it's looking like a good chance of rain, I'll be leaving the mail chausses, elbows/knees, and helmet off. That lets me wear my tall boots (mud is no problem), and not worry about my steel bits rusting. Everything else is fine in the rain-- aluminum mail, linen surcoat, leather bracers, etc.

I'll show. Will there be an actual time when most will definatly be around? I'm aiming to set off at ten at the absolute latest.

And yes, I also fear little from the rain, as most of my maille bits are zinc coated, and I have a nice big mantle to cover most. Those trees also help a good bit too  ;)

Not sure on the time yet. Kat and I often get there 11-ish, but I would like to make gate. If I armor up light (no chausses particularly) it goes on a lot faster too. So we'll see.

Those chausses take nearly 20 minutes to put on, because of all the lacing. I think I timed it at 17 minutes one morning. Ugh.

Well, looking at the weather report, right now it's looking like Saturday may have rain showers, but Sunday is the ugly one, with lots of wind and rain (though cooler).

I'm hoping this means Saturday indeed ends up not being too bad. Skipping Sunday isn't out of the question, depending on how things develop.

I hope Saturday's rain holds off until later. Sunday doesn't look salvageable so I might go into work for a few hours and then go to MASHS free play Sunday (if it isn’t cancelled due to hurricane force winds).

There is still an open invitation to you all who are interested!   ;)

My parents are considering not letting me go on account of the hurricane  :(

Wheather doesn't look to good for PaRF or MdRF on Sun. This would be the third weekend in a row we have had rain on one of the two days. Not a very auspicious start to Faire season. Anyway, those of you heading to Maryland take care, it's supposed to be worse there. I'm hoping we can salvage some of the day, but not optomistic about it.

Sunday, particularly early, is looking ugly. But now Saturday doesn't look great either:

"Windy with morning showers evolving to a steady, soaking rain in the afternoon. Humid. High 79F. Winds ENE at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 90%. Rainfall near a half an inch. "

Of course, we've done faire in horrendous rain before and still had a good time. We went to PARF a while back as an "after wedding" activity. Some friends were getting married just a couple of miles up the road. Of course it rained all day. PARF had white water flowing down the trenches. It was crazy.

PaRF's new policy is if they can not do the evening joust, they will close (as soon as it is determined they will be unable to get the field in order) and issue free return passes. I'm guess Sun. we will be doing this for the third time this season, a new record.

I'm still going on the assumption that we're all meeting up on Saturday...I'm going to try to make the gate opening ceremony if only because I've never seen it before.
