We had a good time today. It was pretty hot out, but it was manageable most of the day. I got pretty overheated at one point late in the day, but we sat down for a while and I recovered.

Sir Brian and I got recruited by the jousters to help as squires for one of the jousts. That was pretty cool. Too bad the joust didn't go entirely as planned. One of the jousters was exhausted, and his horse was a jousting newbie, so between the two he got knocked off and was too tired to continue.

Yes it was a very great armor day! You did very well Sir Edward as I must confess I was a bit concerned for you since it was your first time in the new kit and I believe your first outing in this kind of weather in armor! Huzzah and well done!  :)

Yes that was a lot of fun and a great experience being squires for the jousters. We'll have to armor-down before doing so again next Sunday if they should require our assistance again.  ;)

When the one jouster was unhorsed and his horse ran back down the list towards me I had tried to calm him so I could grab his reins, the horse slowed a bit and perked it's ears up for a second, sort of like saying: "WTF?", but then he lowered his head and laid back his ears which gave me a moment to calculate the math formula:

If an armored dude (me) weighing perhaps 300 pounds tries to impede a horse which is 800-900 pounds equals me getting trampled!

So I gave the horse the road.  ;)

Oh, I've done worse. But this is probably the furthest I've pushed it since I got smarter about it. About 90 degrees and partial plate armor is a little crazy, since it's a solar oven.

My worst and most stupid outing was when I first started doing armor back in '99, and I wore over 50 pounds of steel mail and a wool surcoat to MDRF's opening day. It was about 96 - 99 degrees, sunny, and horrendously humid. I was dehydrated with a migraine after 45 minutes and took the armor off at that point, and didn't recover for the rest of the day. Since then I've been careful not to push it so far.

Yesterday was probably about my limit. But we survived it to the end of the day! And I didn't get overly dehydrated! Huzzah! :)

Indeed! Plate armor in the sun isn't the most practical for squiring. :)

That's a smart move! I think your math is sound. :)

Had a great day on Sunday, heat was tolerable for me. It was good to get together with with some of my fellow knights. Unfortunately things have been really hectic for me lately so I have not had a chance to post.

Great picture of your kits, good sirs!  Sir Brian, I'm jealous of your crest.  Where did you get it?

I like what Sir Brian did with his new crest! Between that and the new surcoat, the kit is looking really nice!

Thank you kind Sirs! I am really pleased how it has turned out and I also have a little bit of versatility now with the bascinet and my other ‘campaign’ surcoat.  :)
