Sir Brian, I've been checking out Ravenswood Leather as well for their pants...I did not know about the breeches, I like, I like!

Wolf, what size are the boots?  How much?

Sir Brian, I think SCABoots.com is where I got my really old leather boots from; if it wasn't them, it had "SCA" and "Boots" in the name, as I was in the SCA at the time and that's what I searched around for.

I got an email that they shipped out the items in stock now (everything sans cloak and vest), and will ship those out when they arrive; which is supposed to be 3-4 days from now. I'll post pics when all of it has arrived.

And Sir Brian has me wondering about this leather pants thing. I hadn't thought of it, but maybe once I finish off a few unfinished tasks, I should get a pair... I'm getting the "Sir Wolf"!

Sir William: The "Sir Wolf" is when you buy something, then something else, and someone posts a link and you think "I need that too! I could use it for my (insert kit) that I haven't started yet!" - and before you blink, you have kits for everything from the cretaceous period (a loincloth and pointed stick) through the 23rd century (or whenever Star Wars is ;)).

Sir Wolf: I ordered the items on the 12th, I only waited a day for responses. :D

The in-stock items arrived yesterday. Still pending are the vest and cloak.

Either I have some mongo forearms, or the one-size-fits-all bracers are from their hobbit line. I get maybe 3/4 coverage from them, nowhere near the closeness of the ones picture - but at under $20 and fabric lined? No real complaints for the price. If nothing else they're pattern-worthy for when I have time to order a side of leather and cut my own. Worthy of note - typing with bracers on is interesting. I'm getting the clothing broken in now before it's first wash, since I'm telecommuting and nobody knows I'm wearing it.

One note on the boots that I didn't think to expect is that while the picture shows nothing on the sides, they are zippered - but at least on the inside of the leg. I'm not overly thrilled by it, and I'm pretty sure it's not period, but they fit well and the quality is good for the price. It would be nice if it mentioned the zipper, but other than that, I'm happy. The zipper is the same color as the boots and has a tiny "grabby thing", so it's not glaringly obvious at least.

The shirt, a large, seems to be XL or XXL on me. I think their 46" chest measurement was overly generous, or I need to learn how to use a fabric ruler again. Same thing with the pants - the Small/Medium is quite large on me - almost to the point of being like my karate gi pants. Yes, that much room, and that's with the smallest pair they offer. They definitely need some minor tailoring for thickness, but the height is spot on.

Good thing I chose the drawstring pants. The ring belt doesn't seem to do much, since I can't get it to stay tight. It's main purpose is just to hold my bag, though.

The overall look is very close to what I was going for, but "puffier" due to the sizing. I will probably look into having it tailored to a better fit if possible, but I doubt I'll be able to for a few weeks. I may just pick up a size Medium shirt and have it sent at the same time as the two items still pending, if that's possible - but I can literally fit both arms in one sleeve, so I think having the sleeve tailored is the better route.

I'll post pics when the entire thing is here.

Yeah, I haven't had much luck with ring-belts either. I never use them anymore. But it's perfectly period to use buckles, it's just that at the time, they didn't have a keeper-loop near the buckle (as modern belts do) and were still intended to be tied around the buckle, just like you would do with a simple ring.

I have one like this: (http://by-the-sword.com/acatalog/Medieval_Thin_Long_Belt_Blue_26-200880.html) and it's great, except that the metal fittings make it hard to shift the pouches around if I need to... and I wear way too much stuff on my belt. :)

I agree with Sir Edward. Ring belts are nearly useless. Raymond's Quiet Press has some excellent fittings and are reasonably priced!  ;)

Once the ring belt's broken in, you'll not have that problem anymore.  Regular use will do that for you.  But I agree, they're not the best option...I opt for buckles whenever possible.

Speaking of RQP, Sir Brian, my spurs just came in!!!!

Sir James...it would appear, then, that I'm already infected!  lol

rarely are pants held up by your ring belt. i used to wear a belt in my pants and then the ring belt over my shirt over the pants for looks or to hold my pouch. but i always had issues. you have to get a ring belt REALLY tight and then it will open up a tad as the day goes by.

Strapped and buckled, but not gold plated...I had not thought to do that as I felt it would be too ostentatious...only because I'm a "new" knight.  What with my plain-Jane field armor I thought it'd be somewhat out of place.

Oh well, next time. The gold-plating is nice because it doesn't tarnish.

Oh...in that case, maybe I'll order another pair, gilded this time.  So much small stuff to look to!
