MASHS Free-play day
« on: 2011-03-28, 13:52:48 »

Yesterday I went over to the MASHS Sunday free-play, and had a great time! I had met a lot of the folks previously at Longpoint, but not all of them. This was a great chance to fence with a bunch of people I hadn't fenced with before. Some of the guys over there are pretty skilled. I also fenced against Larry Tom, and we had some excellent exchanges. It was a real pleasure.

Also, Sir Brian and I finally got to cross blades (in a nice way, of course). :)   He's a natural. I wouldn't have guessed he's only been at it for a few months. Some people stay noobish for a long time, and others learn quickly. I think Sir Brian is the latter.

As for me, I felt a little accident prone yesterday. I have a tiny skin scrape, and a bruised knuckle, which are not unusual. However I also flung the rubber tip off my sword twice, lost a button on my gambeson (which I recovered and can re-attach), and managed to knock over my drink at dinner while getting into a spirited discussion about what we had been doing. :)

Yes it was a blast and thanks again for accepting the invitation to come join us. I think you were a pleasant surprise especially for the two more advanced students there! ;)

I also thank you for the kind and encouraging compliment! Up until yesterday I only got to see your skill via video which doesn’t really catch everything. You are even better than I anticipated Sir Edward. To summarize your skill in one word I would say: Elegance to a degree that I’ve only seen with Larry! And about that glass of ice tea at the restaurant but it was obviously a clean hit since the glass didn’t even see that unterhau of yours coming!  :D

Anyway, thanks for the kind words.

It was cool coming over there and being the "wild card" for the day. :)

I'm almost recovered from Sunday (4 days now). The bruise on my chest is still pretty visible, but my knuckle is mostly back to normal, and I only feel a hint of soreness in my arms. Heh. :)

Yeah sorry to hear about the bruise on your chest...which reaffirms why we use them chest protectors at MASHS! ;)

*wow after rereading my post I realized I had left out a "key" word! DOH! I guess I shouldn't post hastily!* ;)

lol, absolutely. No blood from any of my injuries. Bruise is still quite prominent and the knuckle only hurts if I push on it. But it was worth all of it. :)
