Help with the Dussack
« on: 2010-12-10, 00:14:51 »
I am trying to find fighting manuals on the Dussack, but the only ones I have found are not translated yet or are only images. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Joachim Meyer is one of the most influential sources, and is translated by Dr. Jeffrey Forgeng under the title of The Art of Combat: A German Martial Arts Treatise of 1570.

I am right now covered in Dussack bruises. :)

Thank you Das Bill. But are they any other books that are cheaper. I personally don't believe any book is worth $132. And my group is already out of some pocket money just buying dussacks.

I agree with Sir Wolf. Any man that is happy about having bruises needs to have therapy. jk

You guys don't know what you're missing. :) Dussack fencing is *awesome*!

As for cheaper book, no. The Forgeng translation used to only be $50, but I guess it must be out of print now or something. I'll tell you, though, it's absolutely worth $132. I would pay that in a heartbeat if I didn't already own it. Joachim Meyer's work is one of the more comprehensive treatises out there, and it really focuses on the sportive side of combat very nicely.

This forum reminds me too much of college. I just wanted some info on the dussack, now its fillipino hookers.

I did a bit of searching, but this is the best I could come up with.  The download is in German, but there are pictures showing the various forms.  Dussack stuff starts on page 28.  I'll keep looking.  And now back to the Fillipino hookers. ;)

Jacob Sutor's dussack is essentially Joachim Meyer's dussack, but with worse artwork.

As far as I'm aware, no one has published an English translation of the dussack section, just the longsword section.
