"It wasn't the reward that mattered or the recognition you might harvest. It was your depth of commitment, your quality of service, the product of your devotion -- these were the things that counted in a life. When you gave purely, the honor came in the giving, and that was honor enough."

Sweet acquisition!  :)

You also get the fun of making a liner or are you going to wear it over a cervelliere?

Got for Templar kit so liner likely.

Nice buy!  A steal for that price!

an aside on the historicity of brass oculars:
I've been seeing new offerings with the brass cross underneath the ocular region...which I think is wrong as it isn't just decorative, it is supposed to strengthen that area of the helm.  Saw one on sale for $175 (starting bid) but it don't look right to me.

The brass ocular thing is just a 'cheaper' way to mimic what people are seeing in manuscripts.  Historically it was most likely real gold leaf or painting, but the underlying metal is steel on all surviving examples.  The brass thing kind of caught on though, and has become a huge reenactorism.

Oooh! Nice! Stylish and fearsome. Only $100 too? Worth it.
Some say that the age of chivalry is past, that the spirit of romance is dead. The age of chivalry is never past, so long as there is a wrong left unredressed on earth.
