Gloves for Fencing.
« on: 2011-12-06, 22:02:58 »
I've decided to take up a bit of rapier but the SCA requires gloves to fence. I've decided to buy some gloves from PurpleHeart Armoury cause I've handled both and like both.

Which of the following are better over all. (I will be using a Hanwei Practical 37")

The bottom pair are padded, so I imagine they will be slightly more protective, but with padding usually comes some loss of dexterity.  Why does everything always have to be a trade-off?  lol... I want win-win!  ;D

I have a set of gloves similar to this cept they're not padded. Works better than mittens I'd say but less protective.

I have a set like the bottom pair, that I got from Revival Clothing. It looks like it could be the same manufacturer. They're comfortable and move well. No complaints.

I use a pair of armored gloves from Zen Warrior. They give a little extra protection with epee and saber and I can use them as liners when I want to use my leather or steel clam shell gauntlets.

I have a set of the armored gloves like that as well. I like those for when I need more than just padded leather, but they do restrict you slightly more. They take some breaking in.

I suddenly have a vision of Sir Wolf and Sir Edward dueling with epees while wearing complete deer skins including antlers!  :o
