Anyone here have some advice on doing metal inlay?

I just bought a new hilt  for my SCA sword and I want to do some copper wire inlay when I've finished smoothing the lines & edges of it.

Awesome idea...I have no ideas as to how to get that done or who would do it...but am very interested to see how it comes out.
