@ Sir Gerard:
I got mine from GDFB and here is a link to the original discussion in which Lord Rodney graciously provided some links to some of the vendors that sell them.  :)

Many thanks Sir Brian, I must have missed that conversation  ::)

My maille leg fronts do have a little that sits on the top of my feet ( I will get around to photographing them sooner or later  :-[ ) but they do not enclose the whole of the top of my foot.

No worries Sir Gerard! It actually reminded me that I need to take some follow up pictures on how I ended up securing the sabatons to the soles of my boots! :)

I'd be quite interested to see. :)

I originally stitched a regular #10 flat washer directly onto the sole at the tip and on each side of the boot in
the middle toe (metatarsal bone) area of my boot as this picture shows.

(sabatons)

This proved the concept was sound but the rubber sole was insufficient to withstand the stress and the washer
would eventually rip out of the sole. I then remembered the metal plates screwed into the soles for
tap shoes and figured I could make the same thing but solder a round lug onto the plate so I can attach the
rings of the sabaton to or interlace them with leather cording, either way works fine.  :)

Nope. Selecting the proper screw length is a crucial step!

Very well done, Sir Brian...I meant to comment on how good your mailed sabatons looked!

THANK YOU! Attaching the maile to the boot has been the biggest obstacle to me starting a project like this.  Nice solution!

Great solution! I don't think that would work too well with full-height chausses though. I need to rely on getting my foot through the ankle before putting the shoe on... and then spend like 5+ minutes per foot lacing the mail back down.

Or have a dedicated pair of boots and have the chausses overlap them?

I do, but I need the ankle loose to get my foot in and out, which means undoing all the lacing.

Thanks all and glad to share!  :)

One caveat I should mention about putting screws into the sole and walking on them on pavement/concrete.
You may find it a little bothersome, where it feels like a large pebble is stuck in the treads of your boot or sneakers,
if you find it is an irritant then you could always screw the plate into the SIDE of the sole with thinner screws.  ;)

Sir Brian,
That`s a great solution to the problem.
Unfortunately I can not get away with wearing modern footware, so would be interested in seeing solutions to the problem of wearing maile sabatons over "authentic" footware. I am considering a couple of straps accross the underside of the sole, from the outside to the inside of the foot, one at the ball and one just in front of the heel of the foot.
