later 14thc kit.
« on: 2011-06-04, 13:20:30 »
ok.
i have full stainless 14th century arms and legs minus the spaulders. (as seen here)

i could wear my riveted hauberk with them as well.
now should I order the stainless parts and make a pair of spaulders? or for about the same money I could order the mild steel  spaulder caps, elbows and knees and make new full arms and legs with the rest of the metal i have here.

i would also need to make a surcoat and order a helmet w/ aventail.
thinking of these:

(bascinet) http://www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=AB0427&name=Klappvisier+Bascinet+Helmet or http://www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=AB0423&name=Houndskull+Bascinet+Helmet

and this coif (mail) http://www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=AB2550&name=Chain+Mail+Coif+-+Wedge+Riveted-Solid+Ring+-+Flattened+ring+-+Mild+Steel in order to make the aventail from since ice falcons is so expensive.

just thinking... hmmmmmmmmmm

That's a great idea about using the coif to make an aventail out of!  :)
Too bad I have neither the skill or patience to do that much hand sewing into that thick leather...or are you going to cheat and pre-punch the holes? ;)

In that case you might want to invest in one of these beauties!

They work great!  :)

Hmm. I have 2 or 3 sheets of 4x4 stainless (304 or 316 I think) in the garage from 10 years ago that I never managed to make into usable armor. I'd be more than happy to trade some of the steel if you're willing to make me a few pieces. :)

well hmmm still undecided what to do. i hate having this budget thing in my way hehehe.

might just make a set of mild arms. use the knees i got from merc tailor and make splinted leather legs and greaves. and order the helmet and avantail from KOA. my gauntlets should be here soon.

gotta order some linen for my surcoat

Sorry, I blanked on this somehow. Do you do sabatons? I have a half-set of mild ones I need finished (toe piece, heel plate, and 1 lame of articulation to connect directly to the greaves). We can figure that out later. For now, you're more than welcome to come pick up the steel and start making something for yourself from it.
