It's wedge riveted that much I do know, but it dun look like GDFB wedge riveted stuff. My guess is it's the historical enterprises mail, which is probably the most accurate affordable mail available.
-
yeah, it's hard to say. It's wedge rivets, but they're peened down almost round. GDFB and Ice Falcon wedge rivets are usually much more flat than that, I think.
-
Wait, Icefalcon has wedge riveted mail? Where do you order it from there?
-
hoe old is the mail? Forth armoury used to carry wedge riveted mail too. thats who i got mine from

Hmm. The "my medieval vision" looks familiar. There may be a thread on those images on ArmourArchive or MyArmoury, but I don't recall from when or where. Some very nice things in his collection. :)

Could be Cap-a-pie :-\

"my medieval vision" is the photo gallery of "One Lucky Guy". We've used his photos as examples in other threads, so you might have seen it there. I tried sending him a message to invite him to the forum, but never heard from him. He may not check the messages on the photo site very often.
I guess Ice Falcon really is more about the dome-rivets. Doh. :)
-
" One lucky guy " is a guy named Joe Metz who's a customer. He signed on over at The Armour Archive a few months back and posted a few times.
-
Cool, feel free to mention the forum to him. I'm not on the archive much, but I'll keep am eye open when I'm there.
-
Looks like mine- only difference being mine's stainless. It's India-made I'm sure...GDFB I'd say if I had to hazard a guess but my thinking is a lot of these guys are getting their mail from the same outlet, and I can't recall the name of it off-hand but I know he deals in bulk mail, no pun intended.

Gawd all this talk about maille has me missing the smell of mine...that faint metallic oily smell not my unique aroma of my gambeson after eight hours in 80 plus temperatures! :D
-
LOL @ unique aroma...
I can only imagine what a harness must've smelled like after weeks/months on campaign w/no bathing...I bet that if it was necessary, they shat in their armor rather than get off their mount and undo the necessary bits just to make a movement.
-
Thanks Paladin! Now I have this disturbing mental image of a medieval version of Depends stuck in my head! :D
-
I would hope that that wouldn't have been necessary often. Actually I think most of the time, they took very good care of their gear (when they weren't throwing it away along the road to Jerusalem). I suspect people were generally cleaner than our Victorian historians lead us to believe. :)
-
You mean those same Victorian historians (that has a quirky ring to it btw) that gave us "Chainmail" and medieval armor so heavy that you had to be “craned” onto a warhorse and the swords weighed 20 – 30 pounds? ;)

Yep, those would be the ones... and even worse-- "platemail"... *shudder*
-
What? I wear platemail as part of my harness! LMAO
Now that I've been learned, it doesn't look or sound right to me anymore. But one of my favorite games, Champions of Norrath, featured chainmail, bonemail, platemail and scalemail! lol
-
What also gets me is when a game thinks that a "glaive" is a 3 or 5 pointed star-shaped thrown weapon. Ugh.
-
LOL
That's what I thought it was too for a long time...but I attribute that to that 80s camp classic, Krull. :) It wasn't til I started doing research into the medieval ages that I realized I was very wrong about what a glaive was.
-
OOH! I love those Victorian historians!
I think that Victorian museum curators and restorers also need a hand!
Great job polishing all the paint off of about every extant piece of armour! and we also cannot forget the countless amount of gilding/silvering/brassing that has been wiped clean thanks to their efforts!
A great job, those men and women truly deserve a hand! :P ::)
