Title: What brand of mail is this?

It's wedge riveted that much I do know, but it dun look like GDFB wedge riveted stuff. My guess is it's the historical enterprises mail, which is probably the most accurate affordable mail available.

Post by: Sir Edward on 2010-11-28, 04:36:25: yeah, it's hard to say. It's wedge rivets, but they're peened down almost round. GDFB and Ice Falcon wedge rivets are usually much more flat than that, I think.

Post by: Sir Edward on 2010-11-29, 18:51:51: "my medieval vision" is the photo gallery of "One Lucky Guy". We've used his photos as examples in other threads, so you might have seen it there. I tried sending him a message to invite him to the forum, but never heard from him. He may not check the messages on the photo site very often.

I guess Ice Falcon really is more about the dome-rivets. Doh. :)

It's India-made I'm sure...GDFB I'd say if I had to hazard a guess but my thinking is a lot of these guys are getting their mail from the same outlet, and I can't recall the name of it off-hand but I know he deals in bulk mail, no pun intended.

I can only imagine what a harness must've smelled like after weeks/months on campaign w/no bathing...I bet that if it was necessary, they shat in their armor rather than get off their mount and undo the necessary bits just to make a movement.

Actually I think most of the time, they took very good care of their gear (when they weren't throwing it away along the road to Jerusalem). I suspect people were generally cleaner than our Victorian historians lead us to believe. :)

Yep, those would be the ones... and even worse-- "platemail"... *shudder*

Now that I've been learned, it doesn't look or sound right to me anymore. But one of my favorite games, Champions of Norrath, featured chainmail, bonemail, platemail and scalemail! lol

That's what I thought it was too for a long time...but I attribute that to that 80s camp classic, Krull. :) It wasn't til I started doing research into the medieval ages that I realized I was very wrong about what a glaive was.

Great job polishing all the paint off of about every extant piece of armour! and we also cannot forget the countless amount of gilding/silvering/brassing that has been wiped clean thanks to their efforts!
