Sir James and I had the idea of creating a calendar for the Order. Each month would feature a picture of Sir James doing some menial or mundane things in armor. We've brainstormed such ideas as shoveling snow, raking leaves, mowing the lawn, playing poker, working on the car, and carving a pumpkin. Any suggestions for photos?
The idea is to perhaps sell the calendars and have that money go to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
-
I'm in for it, too. Ideas related to specific activities for the month would be ideal. Here's my rough thoughts:
Jan: Armor in the snow?
Feb: Something with chocolates / hearts (Valentine's Day)
Mar: ?????
Apr: Wearing bunny ears / bunny tail / easter basket?
May: Mother's day thing??
Jun: Father's day thing??
Jul: American flag / fireworks / etc? (July 4th)
Aug: Lifeguard duty
Sep: Working on something? Labor day theme?
Oct: pumpkin carving, with a sword
Nov: Veteran's Day or Thanksgiving ... ideas? Turkey carving with sword? Veteran's Day parade / salute?
Dec: Christmas Tree / posing on the floor
The ones in bold/italic I already have possibly suitable pictures of.

From the technical side, you're going to require photos of acceptable resolution to print calendar sized images. The rule of thumb for 8x10 sized images if roughly 2400 x 3000 up to 2880 x 3600 for the minimum size resolution that will print an 8x10 at acceptable quality. So depending on the size of the calendar print, you can't just pull some crappy jpg image off a computer an expect to print well. Ideally, your base image should be even higher resolution than that and look good at 1x1 scale. If you plan on selling these images, then you should go about it the right way and use the right equipment.

Perhaps march could be.... St. Patty's day, Have you passed out drunk on at a bar in armor. With perhaps a green top hat on.
-Ash wednesday
-Daylight savings- Dark out while getting armor on....
-
Raking leaves would work in the fall, but carving a turkey is probably better for November.
-
Jumping in leaves in fall, November idk raise an order of the marshal flag :) mothers day have a breakfast in bed or wear an apron while cooking pancakes. Fathers day you could do some thatching or carpenter.

I need to double-check the original images, but I believe they were 8 or 10 megapixel photos from a digital SLR; I know they were in the roughly 2,000 pixel size range and down-scaled considerably for book of faces, of course. If you can help out, that would be awesome!
I don't plan to sell it to make any money, profits would just go to Make A Wish / etc through the Order.

I understand that part. I'm just thinking if you intend to sell anything for any reason, it should be as professional a product as possible. It would certainly sell more if it looks its best! :)
-
Thinking about it, is there Order products that are sold to the general public for Make A Wish? If not, that could be a cool thing to have. Set up a little stand for the products along with the calendar

hehe have an easter egg of farb somewhere in each picture ;)

Sounds like those old 'Highlight' magazines where kids would try to find the hidden items located in the picture.

Sounds like a great idea; maybe get more of the brethren involved? Not that I mind ogling Sir James going about tasks fully armored- just would like to see some of the rest of us as well. ;)

Each year a different person?

No, for each month.

Not a bad idea actually.
Oh and its a must that there is one of either Sir James or another at the McDonalds drive through

How about walking through the drive-through, on a hobby-horse? Like this:

I'm absolutely open to more people being involved. The original idea was something we were kicking around at VARF over the weekend since I already have a stash of unusual armor photos to choose from, and with summer rolling around and having to do some yard work anyway... perfect photo op time is here for some of it.
We'd need to be able to coordinate photographer / equipment / day / time / location / etc. Once we get past brainstorming, let's see what we can do... so brainstorm on some multiple/group knight activities too.

Wow. Yes. That. Very much that!

I'm personally fond of Knight Playing Poker. Get James, Ian, Martin, Nathan Q all in their plate armor playing a few hands at a dimly lit poker table.

I think we have to consider the audience we are open to. I don't know if that's child friendly, not saying it isn't a hilarious idea, but something to consider.
EDIT: Then again it probably won't matter since we are using the paint me like a French girl thing lol

I'm pretty certain there's nothing explicit about playing poker. ???

Don't get me wrong, I love the idea and its probably not that inappropriate, I just have this image in my head of cigars and wisky flasks in the image. So its probably fine. Lol
I think we all could do a Last Supper image to. In fact, we could do many different famous paintings lol.

You think playing poker might be inappropriate but parodying the last supper is ok? :o
I think you may have those backwards young Aiden... ;-)

I was thinking of the children! Also I'm not religious so its not a big deal for me lol. But I see my mistake now... I guess I take back what I said :P

Poker is fine.
If we do paintings replication, I'd prefer to do the nearly-identical historical part, rather than a parody for a calendar. Most people wouldn't get it anyway. Simple is better.

Hmm - how to smoke cigars through the helm?
-
How about one of you getting an X-Ray in full harness ;)

Whoa! If the logistics on that wasn't so substantial, I would! :)

Me thinks a poker video on the side would be funny, I know james has one. but if there is one with multiple knights It would be funny if a fight broke out.
And I am also having thoughts of alcohol flasks, except connected with chains to the breastplate. you do not want to lose your sword in battle, nor your Ale

If we do decide to do another photo shoot, I have a young photog w/very reasonable rates (my nephew; has one of those really swift digital Nikons with the telephoto lens and all that jazz); I already put it in his mind that something like this may come about. I was going to do a small photoshoot of myself once I'd gotten everything together so you can see a representation of his work and go from there.
