Guesses?

Getting ready to prime and paint my car of course. :)

Making a very large tea cozy? ???

Well...I see 11 monkey wrenches and two c-clamps holding two sections of wood together that look to be about 6' in length. It isn't a shield, too narrow to be a scabbard...I have no real idea.
-
I think I know :P ( I want to see it finished, a friend of mine on a different forum just made one)
It must be a clamp holder. ;)

Well, spot on guess - it's indeed 6 feet long! Neither shield nor scabbard.

Hmm, aside from clamp holder, which it works wonderfully as, it is an item of medieval context... tune in this weekend to find out what it is!

are you laminating a bow?
-
If he is, it must be before he's shaped it.

Laminating? Yes
Bow? No

10 points to hufflegriffinpuff!!
Making some 2x2 oak shafts for polearms. Laminating the 1x2. Could not find any 2x2 hardwood anywhere, just the cheap pine, which is warped, and is a soft wood for shafts. Two glued, third one to do tonight - then sanding and shaping. Bringing them down to about 1 1/4" x 1 1/2" overall.
-
Oh, and the oak trim is $1/lf. So a pair of 6 foot pieces to make a 6 foot polearm haft is only $12. One thing of glue is under $5 and was enough to do all 3 pairs. Three 6' long oak polearm hafts for $40. Pretty awesome!

we used to buy white ash by the board and cut it down. but thats a cool idea

Where did you find it? I couldn't find ash or oak in 2x sizes at Home Depot or Lowes, only 1x

Why can you not use the same poles you were telling me about for spears from Lowe's?

Those are round, which works for polearms with round sockets, but not square/octagonal ones like this:
If you do something which, if you're like me, thought you would never do in reality - use the pythagorean theorem (a^2 + b^2 = c^2) - you can figure out what the round pole can be shaved down into as a square. It's much less than 1 1/4", so the 1 1/2" poles won't work even shaved down.
The round poles do work great, however, for spears and as banner poles - just not squared / rectangular / octagonal polearms.
-
Ah, you picked up one of Hal's new thingies...very cool. I never thought I'd use that theorem for anything in my life. LOL
Very cool man, I look forward to the finished product.

:) i gotz two of those. one 6 ftish and one 3 ftish. very cool

Pics or it didn't happen!!!
I got one haft done last night, the windlass poleaxe one. I'm re-hafting it on a longer one. Just need to do the bottom cap, then stain or wax the haft. The others, I might get done Sunday. Going to try a different method for comparison.

i have a pic somewheres. thought i posted it...

Sir James, I have a spear that needs hafting...think I'll get it at the Lowe's by you since I've been unable to find it in my own Lowe's. Probably won't get around to mounting it then (as we'll be doing something else w/my armor) but it'll be nice to have.

VARF rehearsal is at my house next weekend, so that's a golden time. If you want to bring the spear head and buy the haft, I'll mount it for you later and bring it to the next event/rehearsal.
-
Of course, I'll be there. That's a splendid offer- thank you, Sir James.

No problem. I'll let you see the polearms I'm doing, to make sure it's a method you'll be okay with.
-
Like I'd know the difference. ;)
Sounds good, Sir James.
