I have DBK working on a scabbard for the Albion Dane. He sent me a photo of the chape:
-
Cool!
-
Sweet!
-
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
-
Very nice! I wish DBK would branch out and consider making lockets. I don't know a lot about fine metal work, but if he can make such nice chapes, I can't imagine why a locket would be harder.
-
Neat. That's going to be one heck of a scabbard.
-
Man, I'm excited to see how it turns out. I really need to get ahold of a sword that would be worthy of a DBK scabbard...I mean, another one. lol
-
I'm excited about it too. I couldn't decide on patterned tooling, so I'm letting him surprise me. I just picked the color, and he expanded on the sketch for the chape I gave him.
-
I'm envious...in a nice way, of course. It is going to be a real beauty! Is he still trying to do gun stuff? He showed me some prelim stuff last year, but I haven't heard anything else about it.
-
Brian just posted a finished Dane scabbard on MyArmoury.com, is this your beauty??

That chape looks awfully familiar! That is one sexy scabbard! Assuming it's yours, congratulations!

WOW, that's absolutely stunning! It may be the best looking scabbard I have ever seen.
-
Yep! He just sent me the link too:

Basically after telling him I wanted wire wraps in it, gave him a simple sketch for a chape, and chose oxblood, I let him run with that and surprise me.
It's freaking amazing!
-
:o
Whoa! That is freaking awesome! Think you'll have it before Sunday?
*I'll wear gloves I promise!* ;)
-
Well, I just sent him the remainder of the payment tonight, so I doubt he'll ship it fast enough. I'll cross my fingers though. :)
Boy, now I need to take a break from buying toys for a while. This month I've spent money on this scabbard, a poleaxe, and a couple of shields. And that Albion is still a ticking time-bomb too. :)
-
Wow!

And sabatons. :D

Oh please please please post a pic on a site I can see! I wanna see! Brian never ceases to amaze...he'd be swimming in silver if we were in the medieval era!

That too... but they cost little more than a tank full of gas. :)

Is DBK's site blocked for you?
I dumped the pictures here:

Yes, unfortunately. So is MyArmoury...makes no sense to me but there you have it. Now...that is one amazing piece of work; quite possibly the best I've seen from him yet. My goodness...my, my, my. I noticed no belts...do you have an existing sword belt you plan on lacing it too?
-
Nope, it's such a large 2-hander that it's not practical to wear on your waist, though it's right on that edge. I'm going to treat it more like the larger landesknecht zweihanders, where you'd just sling it up on your shoulder and carry it by hand.
-
Congrats Sir Ed, That one glorious piece of work.
-
I've never seen the Dane up close so I had no idea it was that big...great piece of work there, sword and scabbard.
-
Yep, check out the specs on this beauty:
Overall length: 58" (147 cm)
Blade length: 42" (106.7 cm)
Blade width at base: 1.4" (3.5 cm)
CoG: 4" (10.2 cm)
CoP: 24.5" (62.2 cm)
Weight: 4 lbs 10 oz (2.1 kg)
The blade length alone is comparable to the entire length of lots of other swords. :)
-
HOLYYYYY...that's huge, well, long. I had no idea...and yes, most of my swords fall within the measurements of your blade alone. lol
All about preference!

And yet, still weighs under 5 lbs. So much for those 10 lb historical swords, right? :D
-
I never believed that...the 10 or 20lbs swords that I'd heard about. Not even as a kid. Of course, kids these days will base what they know off of the latest video game...take Skyrim for example. Your average singlehand sword weighs in at around 12-18lbs depending on what its made of; two handed swords can get upwards of 30lbs. I guess in a game that's cool, but in real life? NAAAAHHHH.
One of my old favorites is Ladyhawke and I like watching it now because they really tried to bring some life into that old 10lbs greatsword type of fight...now, it is hilarious to watch. And I could almost believe that the swords used by the actors must've weighed nearly that much, judging the movements and obvious exhaustion from wielding those monstrosities.
