For those who don't know, we just had our second round of accolades in The Order of the Marshal. This past weekend, several of us traveled out to WV to conduct two knightings at a Catholic church, with a castle overlooking from the nearby hill.
Sir Nathan's ceremony was conducted by his priest, with a Catholic knighting rite that was translated from Latin. Afterward, we did Sir James' ceremony, which he wrote as a variant of our "standard" ceremony form. He opted to include the colée (the buffet) in his ceremony, which we agreed to do as a sort of shoving punch to the shoulder area of the chest.
Afterward, we had a lunch provided by Sir Nathan's family, and then returned to James's place for an afternoon of swordplay and test-cutting, followed by a dinner outing at the local Applebee's.
Much fun was had by all, and I think we definitely need to plan on having more swordy days. :) That's harder to do during the winter, but we can always have movie days instead when the weather is poor.

Sir Nathan, please pass along my heartfelt thanks to your family for providing the lunch. I wasn't expecting that. And to your priest for accommodating us!
Sir James, let me thank you personally for offering up your yard to use for our afternoon festivities. What a great time we all had. It was a great day all around!

It was my pleasure. There will be more of them in the future. :)
-
A heartfelt congratulations to those who received the accolade last weekend!
-
Yes, more swordy days! ;D
And Fr Leonard thought it was very neat, as he is fan of history also.
And the lunch surprised me too! :D
I would thank you, Sir Ed, Sir William, and Sir Brian for your sponsorship. :)
-
sorry to have missed it :(
-
May I also commend and congratulate again our two newest knights of the Order and echo Sir Edward’s gratitude towards Fr Leonard and your family’s surprise luncheon Sir Nathan and truly appreciate your hospitality Sir James for our afternoon activities! :)
sorry to have missed it :(
Well you were almost there by proxy Sir Wolf but we couldn’t capture that rare saber-toothed bunny. ;)

You are a most worthy addition to the Order, Sir Nathan, as is Sir James- but we knew that before you two were ever sponsored. :)

Thank you Sir William and Sir Brian. It is my honor to be accounted as brethren, in leauge with Knights such as yourselves.

Congratulations, Sir Nathan.
Sir John

I thank you Sir John :)
I am glad to see that you are among the order's ranks as well.

I tried to send a message to Sir Matthew to see when he is planning to be knighted, but maybe I'm not doing the messaging correctly. I met him at the PA Ren Faire this past October. I know he's from north of me, so I thought if he wanted to get knighted at the same time as me...it's less distance for you guys to travel.
Sir John
-
I got your message, Sir John, but I have been very busy and just have not had time to return it. I'll send my reply in a minute here. Even though this is the "off season" here in Pa., I find myself as busy or busier than when Faire season was in full swing!

Fellow knights,
Sir Edward said that I need three knights to sponsor me for my knighting. I have tried to show you all that I am an active member contributing to the organization with my "knight of the week." Are there 3 knights who would sponsor me? I would like to get knighted this spring, and am fixing up a "knighting room" in a William Marshal/Modern Chivalry theme...and my dining room as a medieval banquet room. After the knighting ceremony, we can toast with a bottle of Mead that I got from the PA Ren Faire, then have pizza (with medieval music in the background). After the pizza, I will show the movie I made about knights (lasts 1 1/2 hours) and is called: "The Tale of Sir John and the Rascals of Bihor." Please let me know if you are interested in sponsoring me. I will be glad to answer any questions that you may have.
I remain your most obedient servant,
Sir John

Sir John,
I sent you a message back on 11/27 which said:
One last thing - I saw you posted in the Knight of the Week thread that you were nominated for membership - I wanted to make sure that you know I made the nomination, but others agreed, you have all the sponsors you needed, and you are an official member of the Order. Sir Edward sent you a message to let you know - I hope you received it. Congratulations and welcome to the Order.
I did not receive any reply to it, so I am not sure if you saw it or not. You were sponsored as a Yeoman in the Order on November 22nd 2011 by myself and Sir Nathan. The guidelines say you need to be a Yeoman for 90 days before being knighted; by spring it will have been well past the 90 days and at that point you will be eligible for sponsorship as a knight. I don't foresee any problems in you getting 3 sponsors; it is just a matter of time until the 90 days have passed, and can't occur before then.
I would like to be at your knighting ceremony, however I have conflicts for 3 out of 4 weekends in Feb and every weekend in March (birthday, then out of state wedding, then theoretically honeymoon for 2-ish weeks). April is completely open for me, though. Did you have a particular weekend in mind during the spring you'd like to have your knighting?
-
My congratulations goes out to Sir Nathan!
I am proud of you my brother in arms and I hope you continue to live your life by the Code of Chivalry.
My congratulations is extended to Sir James as well.
To say that this is a reminder of who we are and what we strive to become would be enough to summarize these two knightings.
The time in which I will be knighted will come in its proper time and place. At the moment I must fulfill my parents wishes and I must continue in my training to become a Knight.
Glory to the Brave!
-
Sir James,
Thanks for your information. I didn't know that Sir Nathan also sponsored me. I hope he will do so again when I get knighted. The earliest I would plan for is in April...probably mid April. As I said before, since it's a long drive for you, you are welcome to crash for the night at my house.
Do you have names of other knights who will sponsor me for my knighting? Thanks for your help.
I remain, your most obedient servant,
Sir John

Yep, as I've said elsewhere, I just ask for patience from members when it comes to working out knightings and sponsorships. People have varied schedules, and are spread out a bit on the map. We have at least 4 other members whose accolades are slated to occur, but not scheduled, and I'm hoping we can do those before too long.
In fairness to everyone I don't want to fast-track anyone through, but as with everything it's largely up to the body of knights, and what they're comfortable with. I know a lot of us really want to get to know someone, at least a little bit, before stepping up as knighting sponsors. I'm speaking in general here, it's not targeted at anyone. :)
-
Sir Edward: I thank you for your patience and for your understanding. I am grateful that I chose to focus on my important priorities (in a Knight's life) first.
Over time, I have found what interests me and I took some time during the college winter break to reconfigure my plans including ordering my soft kit and full harness.
I will keep my eye on further activities and I hope that I will prove myself worthy of the accolade.

Decided to photoshop a copy of this.
Let me say, masking out 5 people in one picture is a seriously tedious PITA. :)
I didn't go back and do many touch-ups to clean up edges, around hair and so on... but I did add some minor highlights where they were obviously needed to make the edges a little better. Really minor stuff, since after all that masking I was pretty tired. :)

As he always is. I have a bunch of pictures of that grin present on the sidelines during my last MDRF bout. ;)
BTW, great shop Sir Ed!

That's great! At first I thought I'd missed another knighting.

That's my secret 'anticipation' smile! ;)
As he always is. I have a bunch of pictures of that grin present on the sidelines during my last MDRF bout. ;)
And that is the reason for it, because I was anticipating swinging some steel at such noble 'pells'! ;D

I do love your logic, Good Sir Brian ;D

Too bad we can't photoshop my leg armor to sit properly. :D Lesson learned for me on that one; never lose weight, or your armor belt won't be snug enough to hold the weight!
-
Hey, my Lady thought your armour looked good. She said she liked the brass trimming on your plate. None but us really notice :)
Although methinks your biggest critic might be your knee ;)
-
I went back and edited it to raise the lower knee to be even with the other.

Oh wow, I was completely joking about that! Nicely done! We need this on the Order site somewhere. :)
-
lol, it took me like 5 minutes to do. :)
Yeah, I think it's worthy of showing off on the site. I've posted it on the gallery page:

I think I mentioned somewhere that when I get knighted...I am going to have pizza afterwards. Well...likt I always say..I do everything 110%...so I researched pizza. It was around in Italy in the late 900's and was topped with cheese and spices and after tomatoes were brought to Europe from the new world in the 1500's, that's when the italians added them as paste to the pozza. So in the 1500's, pizza as we know it existed! So we will be eating medieval food!

NICE! ;D ;D ;D

I just finished my vigil area that will be used before the knighting. One source said it was usual for the upcoming knight to have the shields of his fellow members, so I added this. The other two are saints that the medieval knights prayed to.
Sir John

Nice touch ;)

That's a very cool touch. Looking forward to it!
-
It looks like a very fine vigil area! :)
-
That is an impressive Vigil Area in which it inspired me to create something like that. I thank you for the idea Sir John.
Also, I am glad you not only show your Faith but also you have an Icon or painting of St. George, my Chivalric Role Model and inspiration for pursuing and living by the Christian Code of Chivalry, well done!
-
Very nice! I might have to make one myself.
-
Very nice, Sir John. Will make for a more authenticated yet personal touch to the ceremony. :) Funny that you posted this. I was working on a vigil area as a space in my battle tent for my events.
-
I am impressed Sir John...that was nicely done.
-
Thanks for all your comments on my vigil area. As I told you before...whatever I do, I do 110%. I set it up in the basement, however, unfortunately I recieved a notice that the city is replacing it's water meters inside the house, and the area around it must be cleared...so I have to dismantle it. I probably won't build it up again in the near future, as I'm still busily working on getting the "knighting" area and "banquet" area ready for my knighting. It's slow going because of the heat.
Those who come to my knighting I think will be impressed at my setup. (I also have a little surprise area made, which I won't devulge.)
That's all for now...getting hot already near my computer and my a/c is right next to it, so I can't run the a/c when I'm online.
Sir John.
PS......noone commented, but I attached my "philosophy" slogan to my signature. It means: Excess in moderation.
-
You certainly have a boundless supply of enthusiasm Sir John. ;)

Sir Gerard,
You have no idea! I don't know where you live, but if you're one of the knights that come here...I think you will have a memorable knighting event.

I wish I could be there to be part of your knighting Sir John, but alas it is a little too far for my earthly flesh to travel ( or for my limited funds to stretch). I shall, instead, be joining you in spirit.

Here are some of the items I am using to build my tent altar for prayer & knighting ceremony in my Order. I'll take final pics when completed. Please leave thoughts.

All of these suggestions are new ideas on how I should design my Vigil Area, yet I will admit I have it planned to be held at my church. But with these Ideas, I think a Vigil at Home will suffice.

The heart, mind, & soul is the home & sanctuary of faith. Your vigil is from within & your physical being at any location carries with it, the means to holy virtue & sanctity. No matter where you hold faith-based ceremony, the practice of virtue is a reflection of your inner-being displayed outwards onto others. Through this display, your chivalry & good-will shines.

Very true indeed Lord Dane. That is the very purpose of the Vigil, a revelation of Virtue and reverence to Holy Sanctity.

Sir Gerard,
I forgot where you were, sorry...but I will be posting pictures so you'll get to see what I meant.

Sir John,
That would be fantastic.

Sir Gerard,
So do you live near Bradford? I'ver never been to England and doubt I will ever get there. I did see my share of places around the world, though, but not all the ones I wanted to see.
Sir John
-
Sir John,
Compared to the States, no where in the U.K. is very far away ;)
Bradford is about 60 miles northeast from Chester, as the crow flies.
The town has an interesting history and a good google search shows an abundance of information. It is right in the heart of the industrial north of England.
If there is ever anything more specific you would like to know I will do my upmost to look into it for you. :)
