Title: Way off topic - I've been busy
Post by: Sir Rodney on 2011-09-14, 01:49:42
Lately, I've been a little preoccupied building a little something for my kids...   ;)

I'm not quite done yet as the rope bridge and tornado slide still need mounting.

Very cool! Though wouldn't it be better with a trebuchet too? :)

Please excuse the WAY off topic post; I'm just so excited.   ;)

I love bargain hunting and this is my best purchase yet.  We purchased the original platform and equipment (left most) on Craig's List a while ago for $200 ("get it out of my yard, I'm trying to sell my house").  We received the new platform / slide / monkey bars (right) from a friend for $0 this summer ("get it out of my yard, my kids are grown").  Over the last year or so I've sunk another $200 in new hardware.  For a total investment of $400, my kids have a $4,000 play set!   :)

My thoughts exactly.  I've built a working scale model, but I see no way to make it "kid safe".  :(

The two tall posts (right) will anchor the turrets (currently unfinished).  The portcullis / gatehouse will be located next to the tornado slide (currently unfinished).  The tunnel idea was given up in favor of the swinging bridge (middle).

Great idea.  There has to be something like that commercially available!

hehehe i built my kids a small one something like that. i have to change it though, seems my daughter is too tall for the swings so I need to raise the bar they hang from another foot. sigh.....

awesome deal though.

Yea, you don't want the kids tossing each other around via trebuchet...that could be disastrous.  However, with that said- I know who to go to when I want to draw up my 'castle'.  :)

Nicely done, Rodney!

I'm always glad to see somebody "get their hands dirty" and build something without a pre-fab kit. Very cool, I can't wait to see the moat and drawbridge. ;)

There's gonna be a moat?  OH COOL!!!!

Hold your horses; no one said anything about a moat!   ;)

There's nothing I hate worse than digging.  My soil is glacial drift which means after you dig 6" deep rocks are everywhere and where there's no rock there's clay.  :(  I've set posts for this play set, my deck and my vegetable garden deer fence; that's quite enough digging thank you.

Awwwww....but we want a moat Lord Rodney!  A bridge over dry grass just doesn't have the same effect.  lol

I'm kidding...those kids should be on hands and knees polishing every bit of harness and armor you have in gratitude!

I may have been trying to volunteer you to do that. :D
