I do too. I'm just hoping it's not another N.Cage flop...

So far the trailers look cool. I might even get decked out in my armor to go. I went to see the last Narnia movie like that and Robin Hood. Got alot of strange looks and alot of compliments on my kit too.

You're a brave one, Sir Matthew...I never did it because I knew it'd just be me doing it.  But I do want to see this one...and there's another medieval flick coming out but I can't remember the name of it, but it is one I will see as well.

I want to see it too. I just get nervous when they cast mr. Cage, since he tends to act every role the same. He's always himself. :)

Ha, now that would be a cool idea-- have several of us armor up to have movie invasions. Not really convenient with everyone spread out though.

Unless....we can all agree on a date, time and location?  Oh, and movie, of course.

I like Nic Cage but you're right...on another board we were talking about actors who make the role suit them, as opposed to actors who fulfill the role.  John Wayne comes to mind for the former.  EVERY movie I've ever seen him in, he's the Duke, no one else.  He's just called something different in each flick, but we all know him as the Duke, no?

There's some actors where you really don't mind that. They just have a presence that you enjoy seeing in films. John Wayne is a great example. But Nic Cage is kinda bland, IMHO. :) I enjoy most of the films he's in, but I don't feel like he really brings anything to the role that another actor couldn't do better.

Take Gary Oldman... man, he's just amazing. Completely transforms himself for each role.

The movie looks interesting based on the previews. There's a bit of foreshadowing where he says something like "but if she is not what you say, you cannot have her". As much fun as watching in armor would be ... I'm not sure I could take ~2 hours of sitting in a plate harness. :)

Yea...he is an incredibly gifted actor...he's sold me on EVERY part he's played, even that of a dwarf in Tiptoes...just awesome.  Another guy who has the magnetism to make a role work is Clint Eastwood.  A la John Wayne, he has great presence...

As for endurance, I used to have that same problem til I changed up my workout routines...now its no problem for me to sit, stand, ambulate in my full harness (granted, it only weighs in about 50lbs including undergarments and assorted accoutrements) for hours on end w/little or no discomfort.  Of course...I've never had a full plate harness w/which to try...but am slowly working on it.  ;)

I don't know, in armor I find it easier to sit down for a long time than stand for a long time. Heh :)

See, 13th to early 14th C is where it's at. The mail flexes with you and is comfortable in a chair. :)

That's what I love about my brig, sitting or standing are equally comfortable. Every time I armored up for a movie my freind Kyle went in his armor with me. We had a great time. I'm not exactly sure where you are at Paladin, but maybe we could pick a theater half way in between and meet up to see this.

As for actors, I love John Wayne movies. He may always have been himself, but I have a hard time seeing anyone else in his role in them. The new True Grit movie looks like a train wreck waiting to happen, but I'll probably end up watching it anyway. I'm also a real big fan of Clint Eastwood, especially in the Westerns. The Outlaw Jose Wales is one of my all time favorites. I haven't liked many of Cage's movies, except for American Treasure which I thought had an interesting plotline and Gone in 60 Seconds. I think I like that more for the cars though.

Count me in for the armoured movie invasion!  ;D ;D ;D

BTW, my MercTailor plate never gives me any trouble when standing, siting, or even running. I've worn it to school, around town, and at the rennfair, and had no discomfort at all!

That would be great, now we just need to find a place with a theater between us to meet and a date/time to do it. I'm free on Sun. I believe, but I'm not sure where we could meet. I know there is a theater in the Arundel Mills Mall, which I think is pretty close to you but a littler farther drive than I'm looking to make at about an hour and twenty minutes. I don't know any other theaters between us. How far is Baltimore for you? There has to be one there and at about an hour, that is a pretty tolerable drive to do this.

How close would this theater be to you http://movies.yahoo.com/showtimes-tickets/theaters/2038-amc-security-square-8/ ? I think it is about 50 min. to an hour for me. Might be about half way. Anyone else want to jump in on this?

Please take pictures to share!  Sounds like a lot of fun.  I'll have to pass as 2,184 miles is a long round trip just for a movie.

dude, if your going to Baltimore your gonna need more than just armour. movies are a bad idea in that city

Ok, thanks for chiming in, Sir Wolf...I wasn't sure but I do know that I have a general dislike for that city.  Matt, what he's saying is we'll need to be armed with projectile weapons of the high impact, high velocity type.  And lots of spare bullets.  lol

I'm kidding, but only sort of...there are parts of Baltimore that are somewhat nice, but then you take a quick walk in any direction and you're in the hood.

Oh, yes, I am very aware of the situation in Baltimore. I used to make fairly regular trips to Towson on the north end of the city and into the inner harbor/fells point area of the city. I am pretty aware of what neighborhoods to avoid and the place I pointed out is not in the city, it's in a shopping area off Security Blvd. which is pretty safe, I think. Failing to be able to that, maybe we could shoot for next weekend and the Arundle Mills Mall theater, I know that should be close to you but I can't swing that drive this weekend, I don't think.

I went and watched this Saturday.

Ok the first ten minutes will make you cringe at all the historical “liberties” they took namely:

~ Spanning several battles during the crusades in the Middle East around 1330’s to 1350’s?
~ Then compounding that by mixing Teutonic knights with Templers?
~ Finally on a more religious aspect they based much of the plot around this mystical book of Solomon which they read out of to combat the “witch” when it wasn’t anything more than a vague reference to the “Keys of Solomon” books which was two volumes and much later in the middle ages or early renaissance period. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Key_of_Solomon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Key_of_Solomon)

After I chose not to be so nitpicky, (it is Hollywood after all) I actually enjoyed the movie and the story, giving less emphasis on the historical aspects and more of the entertainment and noble intentions they seemed to have accomplished well enough. I certainly intend to add it to the DVD library.  :)

Our group was in unanimous agreement that their gambesons looked really great!

Well you should've known better than to go in looking for indiscrepancies, Sir Brian!
I'm wanting to see it just out of a kill-an -afternoon sort of thing.....

I think you will always be disappointed if you look to Hollywood to be faithful to historicity...it just doesn't sell to the masses.  We have an innate interest in that sort of thing because it calls to us from our blood...but the average Joe isn't going to the movies for a history lesson, so why should we?

I think I'm going to enjoy this for what it is...but I'll probably wait for it to come out on DVD...I mean, that's why we bought the screens, you know?  I'm not a fan of movie theaters in general, unless it is with a group of friends.

I've been told that I will probably like it, so long as I can forget the historical inaccuracies and just enjoy it as entertainment. A freind of mine who saw it this weekend said picture Pirates of the Carribean crossed with Supernatural and set in the Crusading Era. All stuff I like.

I ordered it OnDemand...my wife and I actually enjoyed it- again, leaving the historical inaccuracies aside (AFAIK, there were no Templars after 1307, right?) it was entertaining...Cage was his usual deadpan self; I thought Ron Perlman was suitably roguish a la Titus Pullo in Rome and the action sequences were good enough.  By that I mean I do not recall any 90 degree cross parries you usually find in Hollywood, it wasn't as flashy as it could've been and that sort of fitted in with the overall feel of the movie.

At times it seemed disjointed, almost as if certain elements weren't as developed as they were meant to be...this is the second medieval witch-themed movie...Black Death starring Sean Bean also approached the Plague in medieval England (although in BD, the time frame was more accurate, as was the costume, weapons and set designs).

This was a good summer popcorn type of movie; Black Death was a better movie overall.  My two bits, such as they are.

We could fill another entire forum trying to answer that question. ;)

I've got the movie and it's on my watch list for tonight. I'll post thoughts about it in a few days.

Just saw this last night. I haven't seen Black Death, so I can't compare it to that, but I also saw Your Highness, and that was a flop compared to this. I enjoyed this movie quite a bit. I read a number of "down" reviews, and didn't expect much. As Sir William said, it was a bit of a change from the "usual", and to me, it was in a good way. It was interesting enough that I put down the laptop and did NOTHING but watch the movie, which is VERY out of the ordinary for me, as I tend to watch TV/websurf at the same time, or TV/games, or internet/games...

I figured Your Highness to be a spoof on medieval movies, what with that idiot playing the lead.  As I'm a Natalie Portman fan, I thought about catching it on cable when it hits OnDemand.

If you liked Season of the Witch, then I think you'll really like Black Death so go see it, lets talk.

It's definitely a spoof, and somewhat reminded me of "Scary Movie", in that I think I'm missing some of the jokes/puns by missing some of the material they're making fun of. It wasn't a terrible movie, but not something I'm likely to watch again. It's still worth a watch if you have the time and nothing else to do, and you might get all of the jokes, which I'm sure has a lot to do with the enjoyment factor.

After a quick google for Natalie Portman, she's the "second best" eye candy to the movie, to my eyes, anyway.

I'll see if I can get some time to watch Black Death later this week.

Weaponry, of course. :D

I thought the princess (I think she was?) that was involved in the wedding at the beginning was more visually appealing, but that's personal preference of course.

Yea, you're talking about Zooey Deschanel, I'm a fan of hers also.  Love that milky white skin, crystal blue eyes and flowing locks...she's a classic beauty.  Her sister Emily (Fox's Bones tv show) has more prominent features but they're both beautiful.  Zooey's new show, the New Girl is pretty funny...sorta like a reverse Three's Company.  She's got three male roommates and is a bit of a bohemian in demeanor.
