Title: Silver Leaf Renaissance Faire
Post by: Sir Brian on 2012-05-15, 16:26:42
Is no more.  :(

I’ve never been to this faire as it is too far a drive but still saddens me. This is yet another victim of this downturned economy.  :(

Oh man, sorry to hear that. I've never been to it either. I'm not sure where it is.

Tis a shame it has fallen. "Silver Leaf Renaissance Faire, we knew you well."

I've never heard of it before now...we must try to assure that the same does not occur for our Faire(s).  In reading this article, it would seem that attendance has steadily declined over the last 5 years...as of this post, I am unaware if the same can be said for ours...I know when I attended the VA and MD ones, the attendance was booming, especially later in the day.  Has anyone noticed otherwise?

AFAIK MDRF has no worries about declining attendance! VARF has been steadily growing in the few years I've been going to it.  :)

I have noticed it, when I was at the New York Ren Faire last year, there were plenty of attendess and guests (until it started to rain in the late afternoon).  But in regards to local ren faires, I can see declining attendance to be a reality.  I do not want to see the day that the New Jersey Ren Faire closes or even the local Lakewood Ren Faire (hosted by the Barony of Carillion) shut down due to people no longer interested in going (expenses or general dis-interest).

I say we have to do our part in helping these faires continue to run.

That is a relief, I will find out about the New Jersey Ren Faires.

Sir Joshua...which one(s) in NY do you attend?  The Tuxedo one, for instance?  I'm from NY and had no idea such things were going on when I was growing up.

I think it was the one in Tuxedo.  I went last year in August the day before my birthday.

Indeed! If I can spend 3 or 4 hours getting the last 5 miles of traffic just to get into the parking lot (and I have - now I'll make opening gate or won't bother!) ... attendance is probably more than adequate. :)

Ah yes, general one way directions can be confusing, the solution is alternative directions and signs on the road side, that helps a great deal for the driver.

Don't know how well the ones close to me are doing.

Many issues with their organisers. The local SCA stopped doing a demo when we were not seeing a good feedback for our efforts.

This is the first year in 5 that they did not conflict with the below faire and October Crown. Great Western War is the same weekend though. Used to be held in July as a part of Reno Artown 2012 (http://www.renoisartown.com/) it had good success till politics happened.

Ah yes, when coming to MDRF, NEVER take 450 if the weather is nice. :)

I find that planning to get there before the gates open is the surest way to avoid that traffic.  It seems to get especially heavy near noon...later afternoon forget about it.  I remember leaving around 2pm, last time I went and the line was miles long- from the gate all the way to where Old Annapolis rd (450) is bisected by Rt 3.  My second time ever attending, I got caught going TO...I wanted to go so bad though so I stuck it through!  My first weekend I went in mundane clothes and was mad at myself because I had a new butted hauberk w/a black cross that I was afraid to wear because I didn't want to be the only one there wearing armor...mind you, I did not know what to expect as I didn't even know these things existed, my then-gf (now wife, thanks Babe! lol) took me!  Then I met you guys and the rest as they say is history.

The back way into the faire really is best:

50 -> Exit 22, Aris T. Allen -> Riva -> Truman -> S. Haven / Crownsville -> Faire site.

All right turns. Almost never backed up, except maybe that 1/2 mile on Crownsville Rd after crossing over 450.

Hmmm...I'll give that a try, its a longer run but if no traffic at all, well worth it.  Since I live more or less on 450 I've taken the lazy way in.  lol
