Title: Getting rid of a bunch of swords
Post by: Sir Edward on 2012-03-30, 17:24:01
I'm probably going to put these up on ebay tomorrow (except the flamberge since I have no idea how to ship it). But if any of you want to snag any before then, just let me know. I'll let them go for relatively cheap (except maybe the Cold Steel one). We can discuss price if there's anything you're interested in. I've made all of the below clickable to information about each on my website (measurements and the like).

I'm thinking in the ballpark of $40 for the two brass-hilted ones. Maybe in the $60 range for most of the CAS stuff.

I just realized this could be a huge turning point in my collection. We used to joke about the "age rule", in which the number of swords in the collection should not fall below your age. :)

Well... If I sell these, I'll be breaking that rule for the first time since about 1999, when we first came up with it.

I shipped my claymore to you in a flat screen TV box I grabbed at a recycling drop off in the neighborhood. Had to cut it down a bit, but no big deal.

oooo, i would totally be interested in the flamberg AND or claymore, are they usable?
Title: Re: Getting rid of a bunch of swords

The flamberge is definitely not functional. It's really more of an SLO. The claymore is more functional, but it's not a very high quality piece in that regard. I think I paid $80 when it was new. :)

Aww, if they were totally functional id be all over them haha

Yeah, they're really just wall hangers. :)

Now that I actually do combat... I wouldn't consider any of those safe for our purposes.

uhh i might actually be interested in the flamberg just for looks or claymore actually

Awesome. I'm not sure what the shipping charges will be like on those two. I'll look and see if I have boxes that fit them.
Title: Re: Getting rid of a bunch of swords
Post by: Sir Edward on 2012-03-31, 18:49:14

Well, guess what? I listed some of these on ebay today, and the Cold Steel sword sold already. Woohoo! That was the one I put a higher price on, since it's still mostly like new.

uhh i might actually be interested in the flamberg just for looks or claymore actually

BTW, I'm assuming you're under 18? I guess to be legitimate, I should ask if your folks are all OK with that? :) Let me know if you're seriously interested. I'll try to figure something out with boxes. I've saved a bunch of sword boxes, but they don't fit in any of them.

If shipping is unreasonable or difficult, I'd be in for the flamberge. I actually might have some boxes here that would fit the sword, I'll check the shed tomorrow.

Either way, I'm in for the CAS Bastard Sword.

OK, we can look and see if anything fits the flamberge. I can show it to you.

I put the antiqued Bastard up on ebay. If you want, I can take it down, as it doesn't have any bids yet:  http://www.ebay.com/itm/290692406674 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/290692406674)   (I set the starting bid at $80).

PM'd about that. There's a UPS store across the street from 5 Guys if we want to check shipping prices and get it boxed tomorrow.

So this one is sold, to Sir Brian. :)

The ebay auctions also completed on the two CAS wood-gripped swords, and the LaForge, so they'll soon be out the door.

I'll be listing the Starfire and the Knight's Edge pieces soon.

And he is enjoying it very much! I do want to get a little file work done on the inside of the scabbard neck to loosen it up just a tad. ;)

Sir Edward, how about that C/H Bastard?  I might  be interested in that.  Oops, never mind, see that it sold already.  I'm thinking of doing the same...vetting a number from my collection, that is.
Title: Re: Getting rid of a bunch of swords
Post by: Sir Edward on 2012-04-06, 16:02:14

Yeah, that's basically what it's come down to-- thinning the herd, so to speak. My collection has evolved over the years, and now that I'm focusing more on Albion and A&A and the like, some of my other stuff can go to make some room.

Heh, you know, I've joked about the "age rule" for something like 14 years (keeping the number of swords above your age). All I need to do is sell something like 2 more and I'll be breaking it for the first time since '98.

Granted, I'm counting my training blunts toward the total. If not for that, I'd be breaking it already after this past week's sales. :)

Unless you buy 2 more Albions first, or the "Albion Albion" arrives, and you buy one more. ;)

Oh, lol, yeah that was the first one to go. Someone hit "buy it now" and I shipped it the same day I listed it on ebay.

These two are still available.

The Flamberge (first one) will now be free to a good home if you can pick it up in person. I don't want to ship it.

I'll take $50 for the Claymore. But I'd still prefer not to ship that. If I need to figure out how to ship it, I'll need to add shipping charges.

If you can hold it a bit until DoK and fit it in the truck-tetris, that would be ideal. If not, I can swing by your house sometime after work - I'm only down that way this week on Thurs, as of now. Let me know whatever is best for you and I'll do so.

That flamberge is quite big, yes, but not as tall as the one I'm keeping. The one I kept is 6'3".

No, I suppose not. :)

Sir Brian, maybe we can try to get it into your hands in the next few weeks, so I don't have to move it to a new place (assuming we get the house we're looking at; haven't made the offer yet).

Well there is the MASHS' free-play Sunday in the last weekend of March, is that soon enough or does it need to be sooner?  ???

Sir Edward, if you end up moving and want to drop the sword off with me some time in Charles Town, I can hold it here until our April PA event and take it to Sir Brian then.. not sure if that's more effort/headache than just moving the sword when you move though. :)

We'll see how it goes. We still haven't submitted the offer on the house yet, but we're aiming for around March 28 as a settlement date in the paperwork. It's so completely up in the air at the moment that I can't really make plans around it. They may reject our offer, and not negotiate to something we can agree on. We'll have to see.

Best of luck w/that, Sir Edward.  Having gone through this process myself almost exactly a year ago I can tell you- it is onerous.  But well worth it if you get what you want, I did, here's me hoping you do.
