Post by: Sir Brian on 2012-05-18, 14:09:36
www.Fabrics-store.com (http://www.Fabrics-store.com)

The Fabrics Store has 100% heavy weight (7.1 oz) linen on sale until May 20th. Now might be a good time to stock up for future projects.  :)

I'm sort of jealous of you guys that can make your own stuff.  I do not have the talent, tools or wherewithal to do so.

Looks like we all will have to teach Sir William the nuts and bolts of DIY.   ;)

Hehe I’m not making anything Sir William, I am only looking to stock up on the raw materials my seamstress will need to make the items I want. She is extremely talented, very reasonably priced with a quick turn around and the best part, she is a mere 5 miles from my house.  :)

I think the next project I’ll have her do is a knock off lightweight version of the Revival Clothing linen gambeson to wear under my armor. The one I train with is SO freaking comfortable it would make wearing armor so much more tolerable.  ;)

Well, I know you could...you made those pimped out puffy pantaloons to pad your legs, I thought it was an excellent job.  Been looking all over for such a pair and I thought I'd found it but now can't find what site I'd found it on.  lol

Shipping is pricy so get lots of fabric at once.

The quality is pretty nice as well. I made my gambeseon of 9 yards of stuff I got from them.

Hey thanks Ivan! I have been trying all day to get a hold of my seamstress to get an idea of how much fabric I needed to get and now I know! :)

That's probably a good idea since I'll probably have her make another braes and tunic for me as well. :)

I just got my 13th C undergarment kit from Historic Enterprises...wasn't sure what to expect but overall, nice fit and feel.  Might run it through a few washes to soften it up a bit but other than that, it is nice stuff.  Gonna take some getting used to, those linen chausses...and I know its not period but I'm wearing modern underwear underneath the braies...not altogether comfy havin the boys swing wide with all that room in there!

Uh, actually I highly recommend this! Especially after this past Sunday when I happen to shrink my braies a little too much and ripped my crotch out! If Sir Edward didn’t happen to have some safety pins on hand I would’ve been kicked out of the ‘family style’ restaurant we had dinner at after the faire! Of course it wasn’t very comfortable sitting there with a ‘Frankenstein’ scrotum either. ;)

This weekend I’ll be wearing shorts under my braies.  :-[

‘Frankenstein’ scrotum

I'm adding this to the list of words I hope to only hear once in my lifetime. :)

Lesson learned, don't shrink the Brais.  ;)

always remember. wash in cold and dry on low heat to no heat (wool setting) never ever wash any reenacting items in warm water t hot or put heat on in the dryer. a lot of times i let my clothes air dry and then put them in teh dryer to fluff them on no heat.

Yeah I washed them the correct way several times to soften them up and they were still pretty huge so I figured it would be safe to use hot water when I dyed them to help the dye react better to the linen fibers but perhaps I shouldn't have used boiling water!  :-[

And where was this post *before* I shrank my pourpoint on hot wash / hot dry? ;)

I thank the Lord that I am learning so as to not (Heaven forbid) shrink my arming doublet.   ;)

And here I thought you'd done it with me in mind as it is a perfect fit!  Well, would be if it weren't for my newly burgeoning gut...really starting to bother me.  lol

I have one that I spent years developing, and it still fit me before shrinking. ;) That's the beauty of laced garments!

Its more of a vanity thing than anything else.  Need to do something about it...I even talked to this guy at the mall who had one of those little electroshock devices...supposed to work the muscles by inducing micro-convulsions...but it doesn't melt fat and THAT is what I need!  lol

Oh Dear Lord NO!  Sir William I insist you look more carefully and prithee hope you don't get electrocuted in the process!  ;)
