Title: Acid Bath?
Post by: Todd Eriksen on 2012-10-29, 22:49:45
I have a helmet that I use for my 1350's archer portrayal.  It's too shiny.  After seeing the acid bath work on Venerable Metz's new helm at DoK, I'd like to do something like that to this helmet that looks rather like half of Sputnik.  Does anyone know who can do this or how it's done?

Thanks

Why do you think it's too shiny?

Probably since he's portraying an archer. A knight has squires to do all that polishing. :)

I've only tried the opposite, going shinier. Have you talked to Dr Metz about it? Anything involving acid, I generally try to avoid.

I have shiny everything else for my upper class portrayals, but my 1350's archer is not that well off and I'd like the helmet to have a good worn look to it.  The same look that Joe Metz had on his new helm from eastern Euro.

You could probably take a grey scotchbrite pad to it and release some of that shinyness, make it more of a satin finish.  Just a suggestion that I'd heard, not something I've yet tried myself.
