Sir Wolf:
is this helmet: http://www.therionarms.com/reenact/therionarms_c1131.html this helmet:http://www.merctailor.com/catalog/images/illustration%20a.jpg with mail attached? or do you think it is a bassinet with shorter sides?

Sir Edward:

I think you could get away with that. My understanding is that during this time, the bascinets were evolving out of the steel-plate arming caps that were getting integrated with the mail coifs that were initially worn under great helms. So there's some transitional helms in here that weren't true bascinets but shorter versions of them with mail attached. I could be wrong, of course. But I think you could make that work.

Sir Brian:
I concur with Sir Edward. You could go with drilling holes to attach the aventail directly to the helm without using vervelles.  :-\

Sir Wolf:
i think i could just take out that bottom row of rivets and attach the aventail on a internal piece of leather and re rivet it back on.

That sounds like a good plan. Make sure to have a couple extra-long rivits for the ones that go through the helmet, the aventail strap, and the chin straps too.
