According to the movie, he died of dysentery (or similar) while fleeing / roaming

Yes, well...unless this is a prequel, makes sense there's no John. I wonder if the Marshal might make an appearance, seeing as he was Henry III's regent for a couple/few more years until he too passed (the Marshal, not Henry).
