Drai of the Rockies:
Thanks for the heads up on the Maryland faire - we actually make it back to that area every once in awhile; hopefully next time it will be during faire season.

I agree that a wooded area seems like a huge plus.  Not only does it enhance the feel, it sure does help with the heat!  Late July in Colorado means tons of sunny, 90+ days - I know the cast members and attendees that were decked out sure appreciated it.  Thankfully the current Colorado faire is set on the side of a foothill to the Rockies, so there are plenty of wooded areas and interesting terrain changes.

I also really enjoyed how many folks really got into the spirit - on the day I went, I would estimate that about a third of the people (including cast members) were in partial or full period garb.  Good times.

tristam:
I never made it to the old VA faire, but I ran across some pics of the site taken by some guy that decided to hike around in the rubble.  It looks fairly extensive from the leftovers.  For those of you that did go to the old VA fair, here's some pics to make you cry:

Quite sad. I've seen that webpage before... it looks like some of the pictures are blacked out now. It's amazing how fast the overgrowth takes over. Those photos were taken several years ago. The faire had its last season there in 1999.
