Greetings from Sherwood Forest Faire- McDade TX

<< < (2/2)

Sir Wolf:
good to hear from you again!

Sir Robert:
I do apologise to you all, I have been drawn into many things this "winter", and have not even started any new projects, althogh I have plans- and a new forge as well, but not much time it seems. I am headed back to Sherwood Forest next weekend for their closing, and hope to meet the fabled "Knights of Mayhem", I met their armorer on my last visit but most everything was shut down due to rain.

Some humble observations though, while the rain soured the crowed I met some unlikly good spirits in the forest. It seems that nothing can make some people sour or unfriendly, and that is a blessing. As I walked through the forest I met no Robin, or any royal, and  was suprised that a bit of rain would impact a fair as much (they canceled many acts).

I observe this my brothers, we are so few, fewer than I imagined, I do occasionally find knights but they are rare to be sure. I think on what knights are, not the perfect story book type, but what we are and how our brothers are from near and far, and realize that our group may be the bulk of the "true" knights that are out there.

Its not honors or an oath that make a knight, its their heart and actions, its what they do each day to serve others and bring light into a grey world. I hope we can reach the knights scattered across the land and bring them brotherhood, and let them know that there are others that share their ideals.

My next stop on the trail will be California, the oldest fair and beginning of it all. There were no knights there, sadly, but great german soldiers, fellow men at arms that I am looking forward to see again. If fortune favors us, I hope to be in Virginia for a weekend or two, hopefully with my squire, so perhaps I shall see some of you there.

Sir Edward:

Most excellent. If you do find yourself in Virginia, let us know when. Several of us will be performing a longsword demo at VARF on one or two weekends, and if you can catch the show, that would be a great opportunity to meet up.

You're right, we're a rare breed out there. I've always found so few armored knights at the faires, but have always believed there are more just beneath the surface, waiting to be discovered. That is, they need to discover themselves first, since not everyone realizes how easy it can be to get started with arms and armor, and have yet to discover the potential within themselves to be chivalrous knights.

Our very presence can help to inspire the next generation of knights, so I applaud your travels!

Sir James A:
Well said, Sir Edward. I like that you said "not everyone realizes how easy it can be to get started with arms and armor". It is indeed the easy part. Kicking the habit? Well, I don't know anyone who ever has. :D
