It's actually, in a way, more polite than our local term. "Dane" is short for "mundane", abbreviated in a way to intentionally make it sound like we're just calling them foreigners. ;) The term predates my getting to know lots of other rennies, so I don't know who coined it.

lol, yeah, the term "dane" in this context goes back a long way. At least 15 years, since I first heard it.
