Opening weekend MDRF
Sir Edward:
Yeah, we could just rename the thread for next week. :)
I ran into Sir William today, but I think we're the only ones who made it. Kat and I made it in time to see the gate show this morning, and stayed til "close"... that is, at 3pm they closed early. But we didn't get too ridiculously wet. The wind hadn't really kicked up yet, and so the umbrella did a good job.
But get this-- Apparently this time I forgot to pre-wash my linens before making my ankh surcoat. The blue is starting to bleed into the white quite a bit. Grrrr... I wonder what will happen if I throw the whole thing in the washing machine and just wash it several times. Hard to say.
Anyway, as for next week. On the labor day weekend, we usually only do faire sat/sun, and skip monday. But nothing's decided yet.
Sir Patrick:
Bummer about the surcoat, Sir Edward! I hope it isn't ruined.
ECOX:
Sir Edward, http://www.shoutitout.com/en-US/Products/Pages/shout-color-catcher.aspx.
I've never tried it, but it came to my mind after I made my torse out of red and white then realized I had not pre-washed it. Figured it couldn't hurt.
Sir Edward:
Ah, excellent. I think I need to try that. I'm tempted to wash it 3 or 4 times in a row with that stuff and see if I can get rid of the loose dye.
Now that the surcoat is drying off, it doesn't look quite as bad as it did at first, but it did bleed for sure. Most of the bleeding is in the lower part, where the wind was blowing rain onto my legs.
Sir Brian:
You should also try adding a little white distilled vinegar to the wash to help keep the colors
bright as was suggested to me by the seamstress who made two of my surcoats. ;)
