Opening weekend MDRF
SirNathanQ:
Maryland Special swords?
I can't wait to see the new Surcoat, Sir Brian!
Sir Brian:
Maryland Special swords are the swords Sir Edward and I was able to bring into MDRF. Essentially they have their blades removed and the hilt is permanently secured to a hard scabbard with epoxy. I've just got into the habit of calling mine my 'Maryland Special'. ;)
On a couple of positive notes I had my initial fitting for the new pattern yesterday and she assured me that she'll have it ready by Friday as long as I can get the fabric trim I ordered online to her by Thursday and lo and behold I received the fabric trim in the mail yesterday as well and can drop it off to her on Monday! ;D
Sir Patrick:
Sweet! Can't wait to see some pics of the finished product!
Sir Edward:

Yeah, we'll just have to wait and see. They've never been consistent in how they enforce that sort of thing. And technically, even "costume" swords are against the rules there. But they've been lenient when we've shown them it doesn't come out of the scabbard. Hopefully they'll continue with that, but we'll see.
--- Quote from: Sir Brian on 2011-08-20, 12:39:03 ---2.) Although VARF was very gracious to our order I am not as confident of MDRF being so, thus I do not intend to bring any of the ‘Honorary Page’ certificates for the kids. I do not think MDRF will be as accommodating. :-\

That is true. Especially since they passed it through the grapevine to "tone down" the thing with the coins. MDRF gets a little weird about playtrons sometimes. For instance, one of the guys we know (Rob, who is one of the yeoman at VARF now) used to wear this great leather fantasy "Dragon Lord" armor. MDRF got really twitchy about it and asked him to stop dressing up in it. Just because he looked intimidating. Even though he's one of the nicest guys you'd ever meet.
--- Quote from: Sir Brian on 2011-08-20, 12:39:03 ---3.) The weather forecast thus far looks promising for both days so I will be wearing full armor on Saturday at least and perhaps armor ‘light’ on Sunday.

Excellent. I'll keep an eye on the weather too. Full kit one day, and light kit on the other isn't a bad idea.
SirNathanQ:
Sheesh. MDRF needs to calm down.
