I was making a reference to the really good netcode of Tribes 2 game on the Mount & Blade Warband beta testing forum and decided to do a google search for some reference links when the first thing that popped up was this: http://www.tribesnext.com/.

I hadn't played tribes 2 since about 2007 so I didn't know the servers had gone offline in 2008, let alone that another entity had resurrected the game and started up the authentication servers in 2009. So tribes 2 is completely free and has a patch that allows you access to all the game servers available again and playing this morning there still seems to be a viable player base out there. So I guess it's time to dust off the old spinfuser and shocklance!  Wink

Yeah, I had heard they were doing that. I didn't realize it was up and running though! Might have to hop in and give it a shot!

Of course, I've been blasting zombies this week in Left 4 Dead, and my new addiction starts next week (Star Trek Online).

Something similar happened with the game Subspace a decade or so ago.  The community went so far as to rewrite the entire client app.  I haven't played in years, so I don't know how active the servers are, but give it a try if you want to try Asteroids on steroids.
