I put the finishing touches on my Wisby-inspired gauntlets last night. ;D
As they are intended for SCA combat and I fight with a polearm frequently, I had to deviate from historical examples to keep my hands safe. The metacarpal and finger lames are 16 gauge mild while the cuff plates are 18 gauge mild. The fingers are constructed in a simple clamshell fashion, but I dished each digit on each lame so as to appear like laminated finger plates from a distance. The thumbs also deviate from historical examples as they have fully enclosed thumb tips, full sliding rivet articulation and are virtually bombproof. I'm still not 100% satisfied with the fit and will be tweaking them over the next several weeks. The design was inspired by both Mad Matt's Armoury (http://www.madmattsarmory.com/index.php) and Anshelm Arms (http://www.anshelmarms.com/gauntlets.html) examples.
[edit: Sorry for the cruddy cell phone pictures. I'll provide better photos once the tweaking is complete.]

WOW! Great job indeed! :)

You've got skills, Sir Rodney!

Nice, how hard were they to make?

Nice, good job!

Thank you all for the kind words.

They weren't too hard to make. My dishing skills still need vast improvement though. The hardest part for me is the back-of-hand as it's really a complex piece of machinery if you think about it. My total cost in parts was about $35 to $50, but it's difficult to be exact as much of it was laying about the shop.
Time was the major "cost". There's a reason that SCA legal gauntlets of this type run $500 to $800 a pair and that reason is shop-hours. I am amazed that Allan of Merc Tailor has two (non-SCA) Wisby options priced at $300 and $400! That's really quite a bargain if you consider the time involved in manufacture as well as the time involved in development.

That gives a good illusion of individual fingers. Great job!

That is awesome, Sir Rodney!

These are really great! They look very functional and very well designed. I just startted playing with the designs of gauntlets, I agree they arn't difficult as they are time consuming- very time consuming as are all of these projects. You did a most excellent jod, I would love to see more pictures.
