Post by: Thorsteinn on 2011-02-22, 08:16:13
Have all of you seen The Modern Medieval TV (http://www.modernmedieval.org/TV/Welcome.html) yet by Sir Gemini deGrendel of the SCA and Degrendelus Martial Arts (http://www.modernmedieval.org/Site/Welcome.html) (in Turlock, CA)?

Or his Youtube Channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/themodernmedieval)?

He is an awesome guy, and I have found his video's to be enlightening, as well as fun (Checkout 4:30 in on Episode #4). So if you have not watched him, now you can.

What do y'all think?

I've watched several. Not bad. He doesn't always go into a lot of depth, but he keeps it light hearted and fun, which is cool.

Hehe, I chuckled a little when he talked about edge-parries. That has been a source of huge arguments online. As with most things, the truth is somewhere in the middle. The historical manuscripts do describe some edge parries, so you can't say they never happened. But he's right that the way they're often portrayed in films would destroy the swords pretty quickly.

I think its a moot point here, as far as Hollywood swordfights go- we all know what it'd really do to a sword.  Having said that, they are entertaining to watch.

I just watched all of them. Interesting guy. I was cracking up at the "bobble heads" part!
