Sir William, I thought you might find this interesting. Look on the right side:

He's making a couple of Arn scabbards that are available for pre-order. :)
-
Sweet! To bad he doesn't accept kidney's! :D
-
:D :D :D :D you offering your wife's? hehehe
-
As is only! Since there is no refunds there isn't a restocking fee! ;)
-
Thank you, Sir Edward...Brian's about as good as it gets w/regard to scabbards...but he's working from a 2 year waiting list nowadays, right?
-
Nope, typically one year for a standard/custom commission, but these are looking at being delivered in the next month or so if I read it right. He did my most recent one in about a month, since he has his apprentices help make a few "campaign line" scabbards along side the custom work.
-
Huh. Now I got a decision to make. Sigh.

http://www.myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.13712.html I like scabbards that look a bit worn and used. For some reason when stuff looks a bit worn down and not brand new it appeals to me more. Maybe it's cause my persona is a poorer knight that uses outdated or old fashioned stuff.

I like the aged look too. Most of the scabbard makers will make them look distressed and aged if you request it. Personally, I order them all looking shiny and new, because I figure they'll look worn and aged soon enough on their own. :)

Same here, Sir Edward, same here...I handle most of my swords on a daily basis.
-
Apparently he made two of the Arn scabbards, and they're finished and available now.

DAMN those scabbards go for a lot. For that price I could buy myself an Albion sword. But I love the way they look, crusader items appeal to me for some reason.
-
Yep, scabbards aren't cheap. Historically this was true as well. The scabbard is essentially the "other half" of the sword.
-
So does that mean some poorer men-at-arms made do with no scabbard? Or did they just make do with one that was poorer quality?
-
no if you have a sword you have a scabbard. if you are a man at arms all it is you are a an unknighted figure. you would have had money. minor nobles etc might have even been men at arms for higher ranking nobles etc.
-
One sold, and so he has one left:

Yeah, I guess I'll have to wait before I get an Albion, the Albion I want is the Reeve model but I want it to have a crusader scabbard.
-
I'll send him an email today. He doesn't need the actual sword, right?
-
Sir William, I think I see a blow to the head with a frying pan from your lady in the near future if you buy one of these ehheheeheh

Nope, it's already made and ready to ship.
-
Can you shoot me his email? Thought I had it saved somewheres...and I can't hit his site.

Sir Wolf, you've obviously met my wife. I wouldn't dare w/out asking her first. She just got a new iron skillet too; should I worry? lol

Have you seen "Tangled" (the recent Disney film)? I chuckled at one of the scenes. The main good guy ends up fighting off several soldiers with a frying pan, and made some sort of comment along the lines of "Frying pans, who knew right? Why isn't everyone using these?"
-
I've seen frying pans used to good effect in two movies thus far (the only two that come to mind because I saw one just recently and the other, well, I could recite lines at will lol)
LotR - Samwise Gamgee - in the fight against the goblins and cave troll in the Chamber of Mazarbul, in the Mines of Moria.
Scorpion King - the little boy who guides Mathayus inside Memnon's fortress and eventually sneaks aboard the raiding wagon when they go to rescue the sorceress.
-
yes my kids loved that movie

Ulrich, also, scabbards were made plain for the rank and file...it is the embellishments that drive the cost up. Metal bits for the belt and scabbard, intricate designs, etc.
