I'm afraid not. Hal finally charged my card so it is probably inroute. Probably won't be able to get
to it until December sometime. :)

Well I finally got the aventail about a week ago and last night I was able to start the task of attaching it to the helm. I used a combination of tools and material and I'm not done yet but did get the difficult part done insofar as getting the holes in the right place the first time. I started with the first hole on each side to ensure the aventail was even and then the other holes for the next descending vervelles. I used some small picture nails in key locations to hold the aventail to the vervelles while I marked the rest of the spots I needed to make holes in the leather skirting. I used a 5/16" hole punch which was still snug over the vervelles but allowed enough play for some adjustments. I only have to secure the aventail more permanently after I locate some more leather to cut into scales for a finishing touch. I intend to use some 24 gauge gold wire to secure the aventail to the vervelles. - Uh no I'm not leaving the zip ties in place!  ;)

~ Oh and the helmet stand is also from Therion Arms and it's a piggy bank as well! Which is a great bonus since I needed a new one!  :D

That's looking great!

And hey, I think the zip-ties give it character. If they had them back then, they'd have used them... :) (kidding, of course)

Lol, Ok that proves to me that twisted minds think alike because I swear the same thought went through my mind as I was attaching the zip ties last night!  :D

I can't wait to get my visor back from the vendor that needed it for fitting the leather mask I ordered. I need the visor to add a spring pin in the right location.  :-\

@ Sir Wolf,
Do you still have that sewing pattern for the arming cap?

Ok now I have a bit of a dilemma. I can't decide which color to go with on the finish piece on the aventail. I humble ask you gentlemen for your opinions. You need to visualize either the green or gold leather shaped and added to the aventail like in this picture courtesy of Sir Wolf.

Thank you kindly!  :)
Scale finish piece example, green leather and gold leather.

why not both? do the gold a tad larger than the green and sew the green onto the gold and then attach it? so the gold will look like an edging! hehee

I vote for either green, or green w/gold edging.  The gold by itself just doesn't do it for me, Green Knight.

Have I told you lately that you are evil Sir Wolf?  ;)

Now you KNOW I'm going to just have to cut out both pieces!

@ Red Knight I hear you. I might actually do as Sir Wolf suggests and make the gold larger than the green...I just don't know if my cutting skills will measure up!  :D

I find my cutting skills (or any other) are sharpened when it is something that'll directly influence how I'm perceived...having said that, I'd go with the green over gold like Sir Wolf suggested.

Wow, that's a great idea--- multi-layered with both colors!

Otherwise, I'd lean towards the green too, but I think either color would work well.

Yep. Have to go with Sir Wolf on that call. Green onto the gold, onto the tail....

I thank you all fine gentlemen for your help...even though you all are unanimous in doubling work!  :D

But you're gonna look double-good Sir Brian, so its a good trade off, don'tcha think?

True enough and I'm up for the challenge. I started cutting out the leather last night. I'll hopefully get some more time on it over the holidays. :)

Aventail with decorative edging done. What do you all think?
btw, the aventail wasn't a very precise fit but serviceable.  :-\
