Title: Tourney Helm
Post by: Sir Gerard de Rodes on 2010-07-13, 22:10:18
Well we are off to Azincourt this week, then the weekend after is a knights tournament in Belgium.  ;D ;D
For the tournament we all have to have the full regalia so I had to quickly throw a tourney helm together. It`s not the best Helm in the world as I would have prefered a Pempridge Helm. ::)
Here are a couple of Photographs to see what you think. I`m not sure if I prefere the lining faced in or turned out as in the last picture.  ??? I`ve still got to do a little detail painting on the lion yet.

Excellent! Well done indeed!

I agree with Sir Wolf that the turned out look is better.  ;)

Sir Wolf,
I suppose the size of the material veil part (can`t remember it`s name) depends on the size and shape of your helm.

The size of the lion was dictated by whatever I could get hold of from e-bay in such short notice lol  ::)

The lion is painted, carved wood, the veil is blue linen lined with yellow felt. The roll is scrap wool rolled then covered with the blue linen with a gold flecked blue ribbon. The whole lot was then attached to a ply wood base with a selection of screws, pins and threads, this was then drilled to point it to the drilled helm.
I basically just used bits I had lying round the house to keep the cost and time down.

The wreath is known as a Torse and the covering is known as a Mantle  ;)

Excellent tourney helmet Sir Gerard. The liner is better turned out. I'm happy to hear you alo prefer the Pembridge style. :) It's all I fight in & is my 1st preference followed by an armet style.

So, you just 'tossed' that together, did you?  I like it.  A lot.  I'm a fan of the Pembridge too- if only because it has such an imposing look.

.   You just like it because it is English. I like it bc it fits my fathead.

Well, if I have to decide between English and French, the choice is most obvious...so yes, you have me there, Lord Dane.
