Title: Maciejowski "Chopper"
Post by: Sir Edward on 2009-03-09, 17:52:57
Back when Kult of Athena was asking for input on what models to carry, one of the ones I requested was the Maciejowski style "chopper" weapons. Someone on myArmoury pointed out that they finally started carrying them, so I ordered one, and it got here Friday.

I don't have pics or measurements yet, but I'll post some later.

I can see that if it were made by A&A or Albion, they might have made the blade a bit thinner and lighter (typical Del Tin thick blade), but it's really not bad. The blade has a decent distal taper, and despite it's "ugly heft", appearance wise, it handles pretty well. It's perfectly functional one-handed if you grip it around 2/3 to 3/4 of the way up the grip from the pommel. With two hands, it feels remarkably controllable and powerful, though lacking the reach of a longsword. It makes me wish this thing had been sharpened... it screams out to be used to hack things up.

I think the next pumpkin-cutting party will see this weapon, sharp edge or not.

Hopefully these images will show up. :) In the Maciejowski Bible, these "chopper" falchion weapons show up most frequently in the background where you can just see part of the blade sticking up out of the crowd. Very few images have them shown clearly.

In this image, a guy has the straight-handled version on his shoulder:

And here's one ready for a swing:

Here's one showing the curved-handle version:

This image below is kinda neat-- it shows a weapon that looks somewhat like a glaive that is missing most of its haft:
