Just watch. I thought the guy was being facetious, I even asked him near such. Nope, he's dead serious.
If it helps clarify things they disabled comments on the video (below) hours after it was posted. You can imagine the reviews.
Hi all!
Well, I'm going to say it up-front - what follows is a freestyle combat championship to kick back, relax, and enjoy. But, while it may not be Talhoffer, we've been working on it for over a year, and we actually managed to pull it off, and well, we're proud of that.
You have no idea how long I've been sitting on this one. In fact, this one has been in the works since about the time I started at Darksword.
So, here it is...we produced a television show.
I'm not kidding. I'm here to announce the premier of Darksword Armory's first (and hopefully not last) foray into television production:
Medieval Combat Federation. The trailer is here:

So, what is Medieval Combat Federation? It's what happens when you take UFC and add swordplay. It's our attempt to give people an exciting idea of what
a Medieval duel might have been like, with some of Montreal's best re-enactors and Western Martial Artists strutting their stuff.
We filmed the program in 2013 in the ruins of St. Raphael's church, near Cornwall, Ontario. Among our cast were Quebec-based Western Martial Artists
Benoit Goddard, Michael Lacoste, Sebastien Besson, Francois Ouirnet, Martin Poirier, Stepahne Courcelles, Benjamin Prince, and Cedric Riopel - members
of a number of Montreal-based re-enactment and Western Martial Arts groups such as Les Companions d'Armes and Animus, and part of a fast-growing
historical martial arts community in the province of Quebec. The show was produced and directed by Eyal Azerad, and photographed by Marc Crevier.
Medieval Combat Federation is roughly an hour long, and will be showing on Shaw Direct pay-per-view starting mid-June. Check it out if you can!
Best regards to all,
Robert Marks

Meh indeed! :)

Darksword Armoury is so out of touch with reality in all aspects of their existence.
-
There was combat? All I saw were lots of ladies with fire. That's like the epitome of medieval, right? :P

Especially if there's black leather involved. :)

"an exciting idea of what
a Medieval duel might have been like"
And this is what us living historians have to combat on a regular basis... :-\

(Insert medieval facepalm here)

Hmm I seem to be remembering a need for medieval calendar ideas

That would've been like the ultimate in April Fools' jokes, but we're way past April so it lacks the usual punch. Of course Eyal is probably serious and is thinking it'll take off like The Ultimate Fighter did; noted the UFC reference.

Of course then he might be having to deal with this kind of thing, which I don't think he, or his contestants, are.

That is the only time I've ever seen the reverse wheelkick land a KO blow. Perfect execution and the guy got back up in a minute or so after. I haven't watched the show in years, glad to see they're still acquiring talent- but you gotta love the blowhards, especially when they get their comeuppance.

and it can be seen that the fighters are good people

So I pointed out hat, given what we saw the fights must have a severely high injury rate. His reply was this
We can't speak for the combat styles in general - to my knowledge, none of us in the company are members of Animus or any of the other groups involved, so we really just don't know. However, we did have one injury that required stitches during filming (an accidental hit to the head, I believe). Otherwise, there wasn't too much outside of the occasional bruise (and quite a lot of the competitors were wearing armour).
Kinda tells you all you need to know right there. Dude seems to be living in his own little world.

Yea, what's an 'accidental hit to the head' in a live combat art? Or did he mean someone missed a step in the choreography? Man...its like he's gone in a different direction altogether.

Where is this being discussed? I've got to see this thread!

I don't know that it's a thread, Ian- at least, I haven't seen it as of yet. Maybe Thorsteinn has...could be a FB discussion as I haven't seen it on AA.

The "Darksword" thread is unlocked if you log in to the HEMA Alliance forum. He didn't reply to the Misc Topics thread.

It'll be more like Mortal Kombat the live action series than UFC. What'll be really funny is if it takes off.
-
I am not sure how he can defend it on the forum. The trailer shows a man with a torch swinging at another combatant... Surely not scripted right?
