I have decided that the original idea for my Heraldry is too royal looking for me. I am in the process of changing the whole thing, colors and all. Though I will be keeping the teal and black for my aluminum and light weight fantasy style armor.
My new Heraldry will include a Deer, an axe, and a cross. Color change is going to be Burgandy and white. I am still deciding on layout, once that is done I will post pictures. :)

Looking forward to it!

sweet. welcome back btw

Welcome back indeed!

Cool! Check the "do it yourself heraldry" page here: http://inkwellideas.com/coat_of_arms/ (http://inkwellideas.com/coat_of_arms/)

Sir James, I have tried that program several times but never got it to function properly.
-
Blazon95 is another alternative. It's not nearly as nice in many ways, except that it can handle "sections" that are not just straight edges, such as embattled and wavy, which the Inkwells program can't do:

Greetings Sir Jason. :)

OK, I have a rough sketch put together. Now to make it into a digital form so I can put it online.

Your discussion reminds me of a question I had when first purveying your site: are heraldries chosen done so with restrictions - i.e., historically accurate, linked to family name, etc., or is artistic license/creativity also allowed?

As long as it is somewhat different from other members heraldry, there's no written restrictions on it as far as lineage or historical necessity. Some examples are the ankh and bonnacon. Mine is loosely based on heraldry that could be in my family tree, but I've not sought to prove it is. Heraldry should very much be a personal expression of self. Here's mine: http://www.james-anderson-iii.com/historical/my-heraldry/index/ (http://www.james-anderson-iii.com/historical/my-heraldry/index/) and some historical heraldry of others with my surname: http://www.james-anderson-iii.com/historical/clan-heraldry/index/ (http://www.james-anderson-iii.com/historical/clan-heraldry/index/)

Yep, what James said. We highly encourage using some creativity-- After a while, many can start looking the same because certain design ideas are so popular, but heraldry affords some very creative possibilities, especially when looking at the geometric divisions, sections, and the like.
No familial lineage is necessary. In fact, I'd prefer to keep historical designs out (unless you have a direct, actual claim to it), to avoid conflict with any actual family usage today. Having said that, it's possible you might invent something from scratch, and by coincidence it's one that was used historically. I'm not too concerned about this. In the end, it's really up to you.
We don't require them to strictly adhere to the historical rules of heraldry, but strongly encourage people to stick to them, or only fudge it in ways that make sense. A good rule of thumb to use is whether or not it would pass in the SCA. I registered mine there, just as a precaution to make sure that most of the historical community that cares about such things won't end up using the same thing.
For most members, what I've done is taken the image that they provided, and redrew some or all of it into a template from the Inkwell's coat-of-arms designer program, so they're consistent on the website.

Update:
I have decided on my new Heraldry, Design is complete, now I just have to get the Blazon put together. Also I am working on my new Tabard that will reflect my new Heraldry. One step and a time. Thou doubtful I will have it completed before final weekend of MDRF. So looks like it may not make its debut til next year.

Just for clarity, Sir Jason and I discussed the argent axe sitting on top of an argent field. If it's fimbriated (outlined) in a color, such as sable, then it's legal.
-
I like it!
-
hey i like that!
-
OK, so i have put up the new designs, but.... after many attempts to clean up the image using paint, I am seeing one thing on my computer then when i upload it it looks like crap again. Not sure what is going on here but its gonna have to do for now. Still working on the Blazon, and persona write up.
-
I like it as well. :)
-
now make marie make u a surcoat!
-
At the risk of sounding repetitive....I also like it!
The distortion is probably just some kind of .jpeg or compression artifacts or something like that. But the design itself is killer, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. ;)
-
@ Sir Wolf,
I am actually in the process of making one myself. As you can see by the image on my page.
http://modernchivalry.org/knights/view/Sir%20Jason (http://modernchivalry.org/knights/view/Sir%20Jason)
But first i need to design a stencil for the head and antlers so I can cut them out of the fabric.
@DouglasTheYounger,
I agree that its probably a distortion, but its just irritating the work that I put in to fix it for nothing.
-
can u hook your computer/laptop whatever up to your tv? if so hook it up and bring your image up on the screen. re-size the image that you want and then put a paper on the tv screen and trace it!
-
Actually I just did that using my computer monitor. :)
-
awesome lol
now hurry up or BAN! lol

Save it as a PNG file or BMP file instead of JPEG / JPG and it should take care of that. PNG will be a smaller file size and is a more modern format.
-
The "Knight Pages" also automatically resize the image. If you upload a small image, it'll stretch it.
-
I took the original image and saved it in multiple formats and resaved and whatnot, but no change so I am just going to have to deal with it for now til I redo the whole thing. The image size is fine so not a stretching issue.
-
OK, here we go!
I have put together my Blazon, but I am not 100% sure that it is acurate.
Per bend sinister gules and argent, on a bend sinister sable between a stag trippant argent fimbriated sable and a battle axe bendwise sinister gules and argent fimbriated sable, three trefoils or.

Sounds good to me.

Sounds good to me too....but going to be hard to replicate when sewing...lol!!!

The part that I am unsure of the most is for the axe, do you state the color of the blade or the handle first?
-
That's a good question, I'm not sure. But that only comes up if you colorize the the parts separately anyway. If the entire thing is argent, then you would just call it an "axe argent".
I suppose one option could be something like "an axe argent hafted gules" if you wanted a red handle, for instance.
-
That's exactly what I am trying to do, just wasnt sure how to word it.
So then:
Per bend sinister gules and argent, on a bend sinister sable between a stag trippant argent fimbriated sable and a battleaxe bendwise sinister argent hafted gules fimbriated sable, three trefoils or.

-
I think you could just say an "axe proper" unless it is colored different from it's normal colors?
-
I think technically Proper wasn't introduced til later, but i am coloring the handle to match my burgundy.
