So I went to NY ren faire today to meet up with a friend who I invited here, I now am using my new kit and this was the first time I have been in full armor for a WHILE. My newly tailored maille looks so much better with my kit. Didnt wear my maille chausses cause it was muddy and I didnt want them to rust and get dirty so I just wore my greaves instead which, yes they got rusty even with the layer of oil on them. Oddly my hauberk did NOT rust at all despite the slight drizzle, my helmet has a few water stains on it hopefully I can ask Jeffery how to clean it. Some people were rather rude to me though saying they wanted to slam me in the head, I simply acted stoic and act like I don't see the point of their BS when they do that stuff. A little red haired girl did approach me though and said she liked my armor and whatnot, second time thats happened actually, first time it happened was at DoK, guess us redheads subconsciously know our own kind. My friend let me borrow his Del Tin 2 handed sword which actually went well with my kit, I was originally gonna go with my mace and shield but the del tin was too nice not to use.
Here are some pics of me and my friend with mine and his kits. He is a Rus viking and I am a late 13th early 14th century heraldic knight.

The surcoat really looks great. It pulls the whole kit together. The shynbalds also look really nice with that kit. Well done, can't wait to see it in person!
-
wow awesome man, very very cool.
-
Wow! Your kit has really come together! Well done indeed! :)
-
Dude. I am just leaving NYRF as I type this. Sorry I missed you. Kit looks outstanding.
-
I am the friend in question in those photographs. ;D I certainly had a very good time talking with Sir Ulrich, he is a very friendly individual.
Sir Ulrich's kit is so nice to see in person that I now am convinced to take up 13th century living history/reenactment. That DT5143 of mine (sword Sir Ulrich is holding in the photos) certainly goes well with either a 13th or a 14th century kit.
-
welcome!

Nice kit!!!

Badass Garb made it, same people who made my gambeson and padded legs. They got a bit muddy and I'm unsure how to clean them. I might get another surcoat this time a teutonic knight one because I MUCH prefer the fitted look to the baggy one.
-
what are they made from?
if there wool just brush them off and the mud will come off. or if you must wash them, wash in cold and then let them air dry on a line or lay them on the porch rail. do not wash on warm or hot cause they will shrink. and don't put in the dryer unless you know what your doing lol
-
She told me they were machine washable, I just need to clean the bottom though theres a bit of mud on them from walking through that faire. I'm still not sure if I should wash my gambeson, worried it might lower the durability or something, my mom keeps nagging at me to wash it but I think it might make it less durable...

Handwash it. Play it safe. Hang dry. Simple enough.
-
If it’s a linen gambeson you can machine wash it in cold water on delicate then HANG dry. NEVER put linen in the dryer. I wash mine after every seventh or eighth wearing. ;)

lol i dont think i've washed any wool thing of mine and i know i have never washed my arming jacket. lol I've had those things for like 10+ years and there not to bad

We didn't mock you wearing a 15th century arming coat with 12th century mail, not because we're polite, but because we feared reprisal of the stench. :D

I don't know that I'll ever want to go that authentic- the smell I mean. Its pretty bad after a day of heavy sweating, can't imagine what it'd be like after weeks on campaign; but you could. ;)
-
na it doesnt smell. i mean i've never smelled it. my wife never complained lol
-
Maybe she just keeps her distance. lol
-
well done on the kit.

I will be at NYRF on Sunday, 8/25 for the day. If anyone else is interested, I'm armoring up.
