this is going to be a new project.
i have a roman hamata that is all shiny with galvanization.
Tonight i am going to buy some white vinegar and try this method. I will be posting pictures of the different steps during the process.

PICS OR BAN! :D
-
I did that for my hauberk a few years ago, Sir Wolf. It does work, but watch out for the fumes. And the slime that was left over.... Also, mine flash rusted, so I immediately oiled it after.
-
I have a bright hauberk as well that I've been thinking about doing the same...but I really like the fact that I don't have to do any maintenance w/it- it just sits in bag inside of a box until I need it again. Having to oil it constantly to avoid the rust, while period, would really be inconvenient for me. lol

Sir James...actually posted a Justin Timberlake video about bringing sexy back? lol
Sir Wolf, what's that other maille for?

It's for Sir Wolf's sexy sleeveless shirt. I bet he won't even wear an undershirt, and leaves it like a mesh top.
-
its a mail doubler. it goes over the shoulders and attaches in the front.
-
Doubler, as in extra protection? That's cool...probably makes for a really good look, too.

Cool; that also answers why its sleeveless.

Stop trying to justify your mesh maille tank top with historical precedent. We're not buying it. :)

You do make a point- that's part of his Roman get up. You know...the one where he doesn't wear pants; that shirt looks almost indecently short. ;)

Yep, and it's outside of 1066-1600, so it's not proper armor anyways ;)

ROLFLMAO ;D
Personally that's one of my favorite Ancient kits Sir Wolf. It's different than all the other "Romanesque" gear in that it's mail.
But also don't lie, yer trying to bring dat sexay back too lol it's a shirt for two purposes:
living history
raves! ;D
-
WAT?
lol
-
Raves...large gatherings of people, hygiene optional, usually zonking out on hallucinogens and bouncing erratically (they call it dancing) to trance, or drum & bass. The image of Sir Wolf running thru such an event in a hamata and nothing else would not have been considered out of place at a rave. Not a first, anyways. lol
