:o :o :o
Lol oh let me put a bid on that beauty! – Not! ;)
-
Cough Cough * crap* might as well be made in India.
-
"Authentic" plate Templar armor? *cough* LOL.
-
Yea, I coughed quite a bit when I saw that; but unlike what I would've done years ago (lambast the guy for having the audacity to put the words 'historic' and 'authentic' together when talking about plate armor and Templars lol) I simply ignored it. It isn't up to me to enlighten everyone in the world. ;)
-
Oh dear what a complete load of **ahem** :o
G.
-
I've seen worse. :)
It's at least somewhat historically based, even if the proportions are way off, and the helmet in no way matches the era/style of the rest of the harness. They're certainly trying, I'll give them credit for that. It does say made in the UK .. if that's true, it's certainly on the low end of the accuracy scale for stuff I've seen from the UK...
It does say "Authentic design", and "Authentic appearance" but doesn't claim it's an "authentic" original from the Templar era. I'll give them a pass on that, though I did have to re-read it twice to catch it.
-
They get no pass for that...even if you stretch a bit and say such a harness is accurate to 1314, I doubt the Templars would've worn it. I have nothing to back that up other than my gut. ;)

Oh, no, your gut is right on that, it's certainly not accurate to Templar times in any way - it's a solid 100-150 years ahead of the last days of the Templars (at least if we go by the 1307 dissolution date - not counting conspiracy theories :D). It's *loosely* similar to this breastplate (http://www.ageofarmour.com/blackgoth.html (http://www.ageofarmour.com/blackgoth.html)), with having the pointed two-piece breastplate and the semi-standard pauldrons / 16th century wrap-around elbow / finger gaunts / etc. It's far from a good recreation, and, umm, I wouldn't wear it either. Better than the crazy indian one I posted a while back, but, I don't even think I'd put it on a stand in the house either.
-
Ok, I'll say it!! It's not only an insulting claim against authenticity but a clumsy attempt to reproduce an armor kit of an extraordinary Order and time period. Pssssst. May even the cheap-ass armor reproducers of "India" take pity upon this half-assed & un-stylish facsimile of English steel. Is that blunt enough?? :-\ I think so.... 8)
-
Right; if they were going to reproduce Templar armor, it would consist of primarily a full hauberk, chausses and perhaps elbow cops and poleyns at best. Maybe rudimentary shoulder cops as well.
-
Ooh, nice find! ;)
Yeah, poor Templars never got to experience the joys of plate armour. Poor chaps, it's nice stuff. ;D
-
man imagine the horse that had to carrier two knights dressed like that lol

Probably would have done better in their Crusader war efforts had they, I think. This is where Sir Nathan gives his thoughts on Teutonics having better toys than Templars. ;D

Better gear wouldn't have made up for idiotic leadership and swollen egos. :)
-
Sadly, that is too true.
-
Indeed. We dabbled a little bit with that about 1410. Managed to get it out of our systems in time to kick the Poles and Lithuanians back in their place, thank God.
And I won't make any statements on having better toys, just a mention that no one would have to change the dating of their kit at all if they went the Teutonic way...
Though nice toys do tend to come with ruling a powerful sovereign nation, unless the other military orders missed the memo... ;)
-
Unless you fight on Ice right Nathan? ;D
-
Being outnumbered 3 to 1 doesn't help either.

Outnumbered doesn't help when outwitted. ;D
-
I wouldn't call two armies running into each other ouwitted, even if the spot they collided was more favorable to the other. And besides, we weren't even in command, and the actual Teutonic forces made up a small majority of the whole army. Mostly troublesome Livonian ex-Swordbrethren adventuring on grand schemes to conquer Estonia and plunge the Order into war with Denmark. That campaign was mostly an effort to do something at all with them...
