Something that's often referred to as a "glaive" in the mac-bible, but really isn't, is this very interesting thing right here:
Unfortunately I don't know of any surviving examples. Much like the "choppers" depicted in the same book, I don't think any still exist. But these show up quite frequently, and in a variety of proportions.
I contacted A&A about making one, and we're working out the details. It's going to cost as much as a sword, but it will be a very cool and unique item to add to the collection.
-
Whoa, awesome! Pretty soon you'll be chopping people in half through their mail, just like that guy. :)
I can't think of the name, but I've seen a similar Japanese weapon, wooden handle, long blade, and the blade flares out to about double the width, just like that one...
-
I hear these will cleave through helmets as well! ;) I can't wait to see the progress, that is going to be a fearsome weapon when it's done!
-
Reminds me of a nagamaki or rhomphaia.
-
Nagamaki is closer, I kept thinking naginata, and knew it wasn't that, because I have one. Ah well.
Sir Edward, have a look at this thread: http://www.myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?p=106200 (http://www.myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?p=106200)
Second post from the bottom, 13th century weaponry. I'm stealing his picture, which is from Manning Imperial.

Yep, thanks. :) I did already see that. That photo comes up pretty quickly in a google image search, and it takes you to that thread. I wanted to go with A&A though. :)

Oh okay, wasn't sure if you saw a "finished product" and not just the illustration.
Make sure to post pics when you get it! That way I'll know when I can get my greasy gauntlets on it. :)
-
awesome
-
The one I'm getting from A&A will be a little different than that model. It's going to be a knife-style tang with slab grips... except it's a 2-foot long set of grips. :)
A nice giant knight-cleaving knife. :)
-
Remind me not to get hit with that one when we do demos. ;)
-
He shouldn't even be allowed to bring it! lol
That'll be a wicked piece to bring to a cutting session, no?
-
all hail the giant butter knife. i'm gonna attack you with a large piece of toast

You hear that?? Sir Wolf is serving breakfast. ;D Place your orders??
-
I don't know that you want Wolf to have a 'hand' in making breakfast. lol

I specifically said "serving" breakfast like the bar wench. :) Keep the hands outta my order. ;D
-
I got a shipment notification from A&A today. Woohoo!
-
Huzzah! Just in time to make you wait all weekend and excruciatingly long days every day next week sitting at work to wonder if it's at your house yet or not. :)
-
NICE...can't wait to see pics!
-
New toy for the Order armory!!!! Oooooooo. Let me see. Let me see!!! My turn, my turn!!! :P

Yeah, isn't that always how it goes?
Actually, every once in a while I luck out. When I was waiting for one of my Albion+Scabbard combos to show up, and wanted to use it for VARF, it showed up on Friday at 5pm, literally the day before I needed it. Whew.
-
New toy is on the bottom of the pic below (clicky for larger view).
Yay! It's a beast, but handles great. I put the "Chopper" and Albion Knight in there for scale. It's maybe 3/8" shy of being 4.5 feet in length. It's awesome!

Awesome! I thought it was going to have the points like the top one. Very sleek design. At 4.5 feet, that's intimidating! The Knight looks so tiny in comparison.
I suppose if you haven't seen the newspaper article I posted on FB regarding delivery, it won't be as funny now.
-
That thing would be devastating in the cut. Can you imagine?? Brings some of the more gruesome Mac Bible images to mind for sure!

I did, after it got here. :)
This thing would be frightening to have swung at you. It's massive, but moves like a sword.
I can't wait to get some pictures in kit. Ideally I'd want to do that outside, and the weather isn't cooperative at the moment. So it may have to wait.
But yeah, no points on it. Kat thought the same thing. But here's the image I sent to A&A:
-
:D Nifty! I want one... and a straight-ish Rhomphaia like the one's used in Byzantium.

-
Well, serves me right for forgetting about the picture on the first page of the thread. The style like you had at DoK is the one stuck in my head, from this original image (guy swinging above the one in blue on the left getting speared)
If you zoom in, you can see the multi-pointed blade just like the first one you have. But man the blade on the A&A one is almost twice as long; wouldn't want to see that in a dark alley!
-
Huzzah and congratulations! That's a real beauty! Would it be uncouth of me to state I admire your weapon and want to handle it? :)

No more so than some prior interactions of similar statement.. and I'd have to echo your request as well!
-
Agreed. Awesome aquisition Sir Ed, a true beast. I would find myself wanting to void anything coming from that monster! :)
-
On horseback or foot I imagine that thing to be pretty brutal; in fact I'd probably choose that as my main weapon and then switch to a backup if it became necessary. Or shorten the handle and get a real nasty piece of falchion going there. I really like that...no mistaking what its for.
-
That's actually my character's main weapon in my Mount and Blade 1257 AD game. ;D

Well first I should say “HI” as I’m new here. The A&A came out AWSOME looking. I just recently, maybe a month and a half ago found two of these things at a garage sale, if you want to call it that. They were being used by sod farmers (I think). I’m pretty sure they are from MRL. At $30 each it was a great deal.
