Title: Early 14th century Teutonic Knight kit
Post by: SirNathanQ on 2012-11-03, 12:42:28
Here's my Teutonic Knight kit, early 14th century version. All I need to complete this is mittens, and chausses (or enough riveted maille to make cheater chausses!), and a helm or two.

Thanks goes to Ulrich for the coif. Do you like the work I've done to it?  :)

Enjoy!

Looking good! Now we need to find you a really nice Great Helm. :) Once you have enough pieces, you'll practically be able to do every decade from about 1250 through 1400. :)

Sir Nathan, I really love how you have an adaptable kit.  You're a one-man timeline demonstration!  You guys are slowly but surely inspiring me to mayhaps adopt a crusader persona for myself!

Sir Ed, you have hit upon my intention with these kits perfectly! That is exactly what I eventually want to be able to do!
Ian, thank you for you kind words. I do purchase everything with adaptability in mind! Maybe I'll make a timeline slideshow once I get enough pieces  :)

Also, do it! The world always needs more crusaders. May I reccomend the Teutonic Order? It's very nice this time of year  :D

Looking nice, and the coif looks better than when I had it, notice it's more shiny since you cleaned the rust off of it. Maybe I might upgrade my kit to late 13th early 14th so we can be a team of sorts. Just need to get a new shield and maybe a dargen style great helm.

Awesome kit, Sir Nathan! As one of German descent, I've always held the Teutonic knights in high esteem. Alas, your noble brotherhood was just forming when I perished at the Battle of Hattin in 1187. But my spirit rejoiced in the knowledge that the Holy Land and Europe would find new defenders. One day I hope to meet with you, good sir.

Absolutely do this!  That would be awesome to see a photo essay of you doing a Teutonic Knights through Time kind of thing!

Agreed on the serious note. Well done so early in life, Sir Nathan. Your dedication to medieval shopping would make any forum member here envious. :) :) LOL

Thank you guys  :)

Sir Gerard, the knees are a favorite of mine, I had them painted up and the liner actually dagged. I like painted armour, very historical, and few people do it today.

Lord Dane, actually I only bought one item for this, the coif. I mix and match pieces through the centuries  ;). Sir James, thanks I'm very happy with how it turned out.

Ian, really at this point to do that all I need is a Skullcap (or other underneath the great helm helm), great helm, haubergeon, maille mittens, some elbows and splinted armour, enough riveted maille to make riveted cheater chausses, maybe an earlier period bascinet and a shorter Teutonic tabard for the very late era. And BAM, two whole centuries covered in detail!  ;D

Ulrich, that sounds great. Hey, if you find a dargen for under 300 USD please tell me about it. I'll keep you posted on anything good  :) Also we can get Sir Ed to do his late 13th century Teutonic Kit and that'll be three of us in contemporary Order kits.

Silvanus, the Teutonic Order is honored by your praise and proud to serve Christendom! And we have to meet. I'm sure we'll bump into each other at MDRF.  :)

I did find them and they offered it cheaper before but now they got more options including kettle helms. I just wish I could find a cheaper option for a dargen style helm. They also offer it rough from the hammer finished which I'd prolly get due to me liking the "aged appearance" of stuff.

Also found this helm http://www.cashanwei.com/product/crusader-great-helm/ab1508 (http://www.cashanwei.com/product/crusader-great-helm/ab1508)
It's not a dargen type but it's similar enough to it, might pick it up myself.

Sweet find, Ulrich...I'll be checking them out; been wanting a good spangenhelm that doesn't have backslats, bars or grills.  ;)
