Title: Fencing Mask Painting
Post by: Sir Brian on 2012-08-10, 11:47:22
Here is a link to a talented and reasonably priced fencing mask painting site.
http://www.pointedcomments.com/masks.htm (http://www.pointedcomments.com/masks.htm)

I found this site just as I am getting ready to purchase a replacement mask for the one I use for longsword training/duels.
Is it any surprise that I'm thinking a griffin face? - And no not Peter Griffin...although that would be funny!  ;)

The first thing that jumped to mind when I saw that was the Masked Masquerade in Assassin's Creed. (Assassin's Creed 2 - Welcome to the Masquerade (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcfqNiOADFo#)) (promo video, not a spoiler)

It's a neat idea, and the cost is reasonable too. Can't wait to see how yours turns out!

Sir Brian, are you going to paint it yourself?  I think a Griffin face would be awesome, whether it be Peter, or the fictional animal!  I liked the martini glass and sickle too, that one is hilarious.

Well I considered painting it myself but my searches for a picture with a full frontal view of a gryphon’s head was futile and I need the picture in order to make a stencil, so I will speak to the guy and find out if I could have my new mask shipped directly to him.  ;)

I guess you could always have the heraldic griffin painted on, to match your arms. Note quite the same thing, I know.

With a bit of painting tape & a sharp knife you could do marvels.

Also, folks can put their arms on the mask.

Or put some other potentially distracting body part of a female's anatomy on it & every guy will be trying to stick his 'sword' into it.  :o

Oops....did I type that out loud??? I should keep my fingers silent. :)

I think it has more to do with when he thrusts his sword to make contact, he tends to hit his intended target. Hopefully, he won't have 'boobs on the brain' during his next face-off.

Well great news! I inquired with the very talented woman who painted our Longsword Demonstration sign for us and she said it would be an easy thing to paint and would love to do it. SO I decided to go with the great helm design and will post her handiwork and pricing if anyone else is interested in getting some artwork added to their mask!  :)

Well as some have already seen on my FB page the finished mask painting, here is a picture of the finished painting. I just have to get and apply a good sealant after I pick it up from the artist on the 30th @ the MDRF.  :)

Well here is the finished mask from my friend who also painted our Order's longsword demonstration sign. She only wanted to charge me $30 but I paid her $40. She also applied four coats of matte finish to help protect it, off course I STILL have to block better so Sir Edward doesn't get his blue graffiti all over it!  :P

Awww, but it'll look GREAT with blue streaks all over it. I can't wait to hit you in the face... and I mean that in the nicest way possible. :)
