any thoughts?

18ga zinc-plated (galvanized). I suspect they're not very good, but from a costuming point, who knows? They're certainly cheap!
-
I'd get a set but butted comes apart all the time for me, prolly would more so on chausses rather than shirts due to the movement involved. For that price they are tempting though.
-
Leganoth got some similar a little while back
-
I was kinda hoping for girls in steel leggings when I opened this thread. ;D
-
LOL
I've already got a set...butted aluminum at that. I'll use it a few times, see how it works out. Those look butted as well...probably better than mine but who knows. How're Leg's legs holding up? lol

Yep, they're butted.

I had to follow the link as I was curious to see "Amazon male pants". One should read the titles more carefully. ;D

I think those are the ones i got (not black) theyre pretty good. Belt loop is riveted, all else is butted. Not cheap butted with half open rings. theyre all closed. Good fitting too
-
Cool, then it sounds like it's a good place to start if you can't afford the $500+ for stainless riveted stuff from Icefalcon. :)
-
I think I may pick up a pair once I get padded chausses.
-
dont forget to get a pourpoint, these destroy your hips with only a belt
-
Whats a pourpoint and where do I get one?

Here are 2:

The Historic Enterprises one fits differently and is more suited to holding up clothes than something heavy. The revival one is padded at the hips and specifically for a leg harness.
In the interest of not re-typing a bunch of stuff, here's the pourpoint discussion points from DoK:
The pourpoint is designed to PUT the weight on your hips. Which is a good thing, you don't want the weight on your lower back or your shoulders. The only way a pourpoint works as a load-bearing garment is to ensure a proper fit. The revival pourpoint is designed to be very tight through the hips so that the front seams cannot meet each other. This will ensure that the weight is kept off the shoulders. The revival pourpoint has good fitting instructions on their website. If you allow the front seam to meet (i.e, the garment is too big), all the weight of your armor will be transferred to your shoulders and make your shoulders and lower back hurt all day, defeating the purpose of the pourpoint.
OK, Pourpoint Fitting Modeling:
First photo, The pourpoint is only laced up to my chest and then tied off to illustrate that it needs to be TIGHT through the hips and mid-section, and can be completely LOOSE from the chest up, and there is no tension whatsoever on my shoulders. The middle seam CANNOT meet in the middle or you defeat the purpose.

In Photo #2, you can see it attached to the cuisse. The points are reinforced with small leather tabs. And you can still see, there is NO tension on my chest or shoulder with the weight of the cuisse hanging from the garment, all the weight is on my hips which does not fatigue my lower back or shoulders:

Oh, and I forgot, the lacing is SPIRAL LACING, not normal sneaker style lacing. The holes are offset on the revival garment to allow for spiral lacing. This means only one end of the lace snakes up the garment as you tie it tight.

"This photo is currently unavailable". Grr. Sometimes flickr is a pain.

I just saw this Ian...thanks for sharing that. It just reminded me that I do indeed have a pourpoint (thank you, Sir James) and now know how it should fit.

I was the other extreme on that, not only did the front not overlap - it was a good foot apart on my bloated gut.
Thanks for posting those, Ian. I've been to lazy to get around to suiting up and taking pictures to post with.
-
Yes thanks for posting these Ian and reminding me that I REALLY have to get my pourpoint tailored since I have shed some poundage from when I initially purchased it a couple of years ago because with even the added bulk of my ice packs, mine laces completely closed and is still a little baggy on me. :-\
-
Sir Brian, congrats on the weight loss...I thought you looked rather trim last time I saw you as opposed to when we first met. ;)
-
Thanks Sir William! Alas I fear I will forever be 'plateaued' @ the 220 lbs mark, hence my reluctance to have my pourpoint tailored when I want to lose at least another ten to twenty pounds. :-\
-
You're 220 now? I would not have guessed that much. You carry it well!
