Brethren I present Seelenspalter! My new Albion Meyer practice blade. :)
-
sweet
-
Nice! Your first Albion Sir Brian?
-
Yes and I look forward to hitting you all with it in the near future! ;)
-
Sweet, I'll have to go straight for a disarm! :)
lol, awesome man. We'll definitely have to cross blades again soon. What is the significance of the name?
Oh, and Kat says there's no do-over. The Albions aren't going anywhere. :)

Seelenspalter is German for 'Soul Cleaver' and I knew it was a longshot with the 'Do-over' but you can't blame me for trying! ;)
-
Nice ;) ;)

If you don't mind me asking, how long was the wait from order to receiving that beautiful practice sword?
-
Normally the wait from Albion is 6 to 12 weeks (though I've had one come through in one week before, because someone else canceled their order for the same thing). But this year they had some delays due to their steel supplier not coming through with steel for them. I believe Sir Brian had to wait a while.
-
Yes I had to wait 5 months! :(
...but it was well worth the wait! Now I have to wait until Wednesday night to hit someone with it! ;)
-
I like it; maybe one day I'll let you hit me with it! ;)
-
Having many "quick" disappointments, waiting 5 months for a quality piece you're happy with should be well worth the wait. Huzzah and congratulations on it's arrival. May it open the door to (many) more Albions. :)

Well tragedy has struck last night at practice when approximately 3” broke off the tip of SeelenSpalter!
I was dueling Matt Lawrence (coincidentally enough he is the same guy with whom we broke on the same night my other steel blade and his aluminum blade several months ago). He received his A&A Fechterspiel about three weeks ago and we dueled then several times with no problems. Last night on our third duel I made an opening attack with a typical zornhau without any excessive power or speed and when he blocked it with his own zornhau my tip went flying. I only had this blade just less than 15 months and I’m shocked it broke. I will be calling Mike at Albion today and inquire about this obvious quality issue. >:(
In the meanwhile I am considering on buying an A&A Fechterspiel from KOA since they are in stock at $430. :-\
Oh by the way, I haven’t given my wife the tragic news as of yet so no running your fingers off on the
‘Book of Faces’! ;)

My condolescences, Sir Brian. But at least it's a sword-tip & not a thumb-nail this time. :D I'll be getting something new shortly. A new Xiiia two-handed 12th century broadsword from Darksword Armory with scabbard & swordbelt. Got it for $200.00 second-hand on ebay auction. No defects or damage either. Least nothing I can't finish up (slight tarnish on tip).
-
Ah but thumbnails and broken fingers eventually heal! ;)
And yet all is not lost since I spoke with Mike @ Albion and he told me to send it back to him and theyll replace the blade. I am still in need of a steel blade however and I'm now torn between getting a replacement blade for my broken Tinker Pearce practice longsword or dropping the extra scratch for the Fechterspiel. :-\
UPDATE: Well I went with the replacement blade for the Tinker since they are in stock AND on sale for $129.00 :)
-
Wow, that's awesome that they're going to replace the blade. Man, only 15 months? It's quite possible there was a quality issue with the blade. Did you get a good look at the grain inside the break? Any invasion of rust or anything like that?
I know with mine it was definitely just one too many bends. I got a good 5 years out of it.
-
I didn't get a chance to check it out with a magnifying lens but I've been very diligent about keeping it well maintained and inspect my blades frequently.
I’m just glad I kept my Talhoffer shipping box so I can ship the Meyer back to them in that. ;)
-
Glad to hear they stand by their blades & customers. :) Gives Albion another reason to be looked on favorably.
-
Truly!
Well I just mailed it back to them. Now I'll have to wait for them to replace the blade. Hopefully my replacement blade for the tinker will be here shortly. :)
-
Sir Brian, methinks thou dost strike most judiciously! I'm not surprised or even disappointed- unless you've not had any bouting except for the two instances mentioned. These swords are quite sturdy, but definitely not unbreakable and there's no telling the stresses you've placed that blade under during your many bouts that could've contributed to the failure. I'm interested to hear what Mike says- do they have a no-questions replacement policy in place?

Most excellent!

dang man. that sucks. i am truly sorry
